Dog Showmanship Video Series - The Dog Showmanship Video Series includes maneuver descriptions, demonstrations, and general information for youth interested in learning more about dog showmanship. The short videos are intended to help youth while practicing with their dogs in preparation for 4-H showmanship.
Video Companion Animal Showmanship Contest - The Video Companion Animal Showmanship Contest provides 4-H members an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills of working with their companion animals, such as cat, ferret, guinea pig, or rodent.
Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) - Nebraska 4-H requires all youth, ages 8-18, enrolled in livestock projects to complete annual quality assurance certification through YQCA. YQCA is a national multi-species quality assurance program focused on three core pillars: food safety, animal well-being, and character development. 4-H members who exhibit animals at the Knox County Fair must have the YQCA completed by Monday, August 3. The annual training may be completed by one of the following:
Face-to-Face Training with a Certified Instructor - 4-H'ers will need to register at YQCA and pay the $3 fee prior to the training. Below are the training dates and locations we have so far in the area:
April 1 - Center
June 19 - Creighton
July 18 - Bloomfield
July 23 - Crofton
Web-Based Training - Visit the YQCA login page to begin. Cost of the online course is $12.00 per individual regardless of age.
Testing Out - Test-out options are only available to youth in the first year of Intermediate (age 12) and Senior (age 15) age levels. There is no test-out option for Juniors. If passed, youth will not be required to complete the annual training requirements for the remainder of their current age level (Intermediates: 12-14; Seniors: 15-18). Each test consists of 50 randomly selected questions and has a pass rate of 80% or better for certification. Test-out costs are: Intermediate: $36 ($12 x 3 years of certification) and Senior: $48 ($12 x 4 years of certification).
Scrapie Information for Sheep & Goats - In 2001 the USDA initiated a program to eradicate scrapie from the nation's sheep flocks and goat herds. The NE State Fair requires that all sheep and goats be identified with a scrapie tag and these are the guidelines that Knox County follows. If you need tags - call toll free 1-866-873-2824, select option 7 to reqiest official ear tags at no cost and/or a flock ID number.
