The past month has been hard for us gardeners! It has been bitterly cold with so much snow it seems that it will never melt. A good way to keep your green thumb working is to grow plants indoors. You can grow houseplants or herbs year-round inside.
In 2023, the soybean gall midge was reported in eight new counties—two in Kansas and six in Iowa, bringing the total documented counties in the United States to 164. This "field edge pest" was initially observed in Nebraska in 2011, and it was formally identified as a new soybean pest in 2019.

Nebraska Extension in Nemaha County welcomes our new Water & Crops System Educator, Ritika Lamichhane. Along with Nemaha County, her accountability region includes Johnson, Pawnee & Richardson Counties.
Last year Nebraska Extension introduced the free Agricultural Budget Calculator (ABC) program. This program is designed to assist agricultural producers in determining their cost of production and projected cash and economic returns for their various farm or ranch enterprises. It is developed by the Center for Agricultural Profitability in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Department of Agricultural Economics. This article comes from recent issues of CropWatch where Glennis McClure and other members of the Center for Ag Profitability Team explained the program and a couple of , specific questions that may come up when using it.

A private pesticide applicator is a person who uses or supervises the use of restricted use pesticides in the production of agricultural commodities on land owned or rented by them or their employer. Applicators are not eligible to purchase or apply restricted use pesticides until both certified and licensed. I will be assisting with educator vacancies in Lancaster/Cass/Otoe and Johnson/Nemaha/Pawnee/Richardson accountability regions. The number of trainings and venues have changed across southeast Nebraska as a result.
