Herdsmanship

Pay Code 300

Herdsmanship is important to the public image of agriculture, your club, and your family!

A minimum of two exhibitors (4‑H or FFA) enrolled in the project area, with animals in a division will be required before a club or independent will be considered for awards. Herdsmanship premiums will not be paid until all pens have been cleaned and bedding removed to the dump area.

Herdsmanship helps 4‑H youth learn skills in making a presentable exhibit for the public as well as learned skills in courtesy, cooperation, neatness, and proper care of animals.

  • Judging will take place twice a day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between 9 am and 9 pm by one or two qualified individuals.
  • On show day, there will be one judging. Judging will not take place during show time.
  • Herdsmanship awards will be handed out on Sunday at the conclusion of Large Animal Round Robin.
  • All ties will be broken by Livestock Superintendents and/or Herdsmanship Judge(s).
  • Club: Champion Herdsmanship winners are encouraged to bring their banner award back the following year to show to the public.
