Contests

Youth must be enrolled in the project and complete the BLUE Shooting Sports Contest Entry Form (Fillable PDF, 1 pg, 105 KB) by June 15 if you wish to participate in any of the 4-H Shooting Sports Contests listed below.

4-H Air Firearm Contests 

(Rifle & Pistol)

Date: Sunday, April 10, 2022
Time: 2:00-6:00 pm
Location:  Nemaha County 4-H Building

PRACTICES: (2 flights per practice) (Must be enrolled in 4-H and carrying Air Pistol or Air Rifle project to participate.)

  • Sunday, February 6th at Nemaha County 4-H Building from 1:30-5:30 pm
  • Sunday, February 20th at Nemaha County 4-H Building from 1:30-5:30 pm
  • Sunday, March 6th at Nemaha County 4-H Building from 1:30-5:30 pm
  • Sunday, March 20th at Nemaha County 4-H Building from 1:30-5:30 pm
  • Sunday, April 3rd at Nemaha County 4-H Building from 1:30-5:30 pm

Participants are required to wear ear and eye protection.

  • Rifle:   Prone - Standing - Kneeling - 10 shots in each position  10 meters:  Target used - AR 5/10     5 meters:  Target used - AR 4/10
  • Pistol:  10 meters – 10 shots at 4 targets/40 shots total  Target used: B-40
4-H Archery Contest

Date:  Saturday, August 13, 2022
Time:  9:00 am
Location:  Open Area on the Fairgrounds

PRACTICES: (Must be enrolled in 4-H and carrying Archery project to participate.) (Practice times may need to change if there are weather conflicts.)

  • Sunday, June 12th at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Sunday, June 26th at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Sunday, July 10th at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Sunday, July 24th at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Sunday, July 31st at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm
  • Sunday, August 7th at Nemaha County Fairgrounds from 6:00-8:00 pm

Participants must provide their own bow, arrows and release aids. 

Explanation of Archery Classes

  • Freestyle Limited - Arrows must be drawn and released by hand.  No limit on sights or stabilizers. Release aids limited to gloves, tabs and fingers.        
  • Freestyle - Same as limited; also allows use of mechanical release
  • Traditional - Recurve or longbows, arrows drawn by hand, no sights or marks on bow or string.  No mechanical devices, stabilizers or counter balances are allowed. Only glove, tabs or fingers.

County Archery Contest will consist of:
            Junior (8-11 years old)       20 arrows at 30 yards                                       
                                                       20 arrows at 20 yards                                                   
                                                       20 arrows at 10 yards                         
Intermediate (12-14 years old)      20 arrows at 40 yards                                       
                                                       20 arrows at 30 yards                                                   
                                                       20 arrows at 20 yards
           Senior (15-18 years old)      20 arrows at 50 yards                                       
                                                       20 arrows at 40 yards                                                   
                                                       20 arrows at 30 yards  

4-H BB Gun Contest

Date:  Wednesday, August 17, 2022
Time:  10:00 am
Location:  Open Area on the Fairgrounds

Watch for details on signing up for flights.

Participants must provide their own gun, BBs and safety glasses.  Participants are required to wear eye protection.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to assist youth with loading and cocking rifles on the firing line.  Each participant must have an appropriate supervisor on the firing line.  Air rifles used for the BB Gun Contest will use BB ammunition and will be limited to 2 pumps.  Participants will take 10 shots from 5 mteres in each position Prone, Kneeling, Standing and Sitting.  Target used:  AR-4/10  

Explanation of Sights
Open Iron – Rear sight is adjustable with a notch of variable shapes, typically a “v” notch.
Peep – Rear sight is adjustable, is a round disc with a small hole (peep) in the center.

4-H Shotgun Contests

4-H Smallbore (.22 caliber) Contests

  • Rifle:  Prone - Standing - Kneeling - 50 feet, 10 shots in each position  Target used: A-17
  • Rifle Silhouette:  Standing – Hunter Pistol Steel Targets - 1 shot each target/40 shots total
    10 Chickens at 40 meters/10 Pigs at 60 meters/10 Turkeys at 77 meters/10 Rams at 100 meters
  • Pistol:  Standing – 50 feet, 10 shots each at 4 targets/40 shots total   Target used: B-8
