Youth must be enrolled in the project and complete the BLUE Shooting Sports Contest Entry Form (Fillable PDF, 1 pg, 105 KB) by June 15 if you wish to participate in any of the 4-H Shooting Sports Contests listed below.

4-H Air Firearm Contests
(Rifle & Pistol)

All participants must be enrolled in 4-H at v2.4honline.com with the air pistol and air rifle project selected if they want to participate in both or just choose one or the other. Enrollment includes a waiver for parents to sign that must be completed before participation is allowed. Participation in 3 practices is required to be able to compete in the competition. Rifle practices will transfer if you want to compete in the Smallbore (.22) and BB Gun competitions later in the year. Pistol practices will transfer if you want to compete in the Smallbore (.22) Pistol competition later in the year.
This year again we will be shooting in the 4-H building. How many flights we have will depend on how many kids sign-up. We can have 10 kids on the firing line at a time, but we only have so many firearms. If you have your own air rifle or air pistol and eye protection, please bring them. Rifles and pistols must be transported in a case, box or bag; penalty will be disqualification from shooting.

Participants must provide their own bow, arrows and release aids or arrange to use club equipment. Bows must be transported in a case, box or bag; penalty will be disqualification from shooting.
Explanation of Bows/Archery Classes
Compound Bows
- Freestyle Limited - Arrows must be drawn and released by hand. No limit on sights or stabilizers. Release aids limited to gloves, tabs and fingers.
- Freestyle - Same as limited; also allows use of mechanical release
Traditional Bows
- Recurve - Arrows drawn by hand, no sights or marks on bow or string. No mechanical devices, stabilizers or counter balances are allowed. Only glove, tabs or fingers. Recurve bows curve away from the archer at the tips of the bow.
- Longbow - Arrows drawn by hand, no sights or marks on bow or string. No mechanical devices, stabilizers or counter balances are allowed. Only glove, tabs or fingers. Any person shooting Longbow will shoot distance one class lower than their age division. (Ex: Senior will shoot at Intermediate distance, Intermediate will shoot at Junior distance and Junior will shoot at Junior distance.)
County Archery Contest will consist of:
Junior (8-11 years old) 20 arrows at 30 yards

4-H BB Gun Contest

All participants must be enrolled in 4-H at v2.4honline.com with the BB gun project selected if they want to participate. Enrollment includes a waiver for parents to sign that must be completed before participation is allowed. How many flights we have will depend on how many kids sign-up. Participation in 1 rifle practice is required to be able to compete in the competition.
PRACTICES:

- Sunday, August 6th at 4:00 pm
Participants must provide their own rifle, or arrange to use the club equipment and ammunition. Eye protection is required. A mat or blanket is needed to use for the prone, sitting and kneeling positions. Parents/guardians are required to assist youth in Junior division with loading and cocking rifles on the firing line. Firearms used for the BB Gun Contest will use BB ammunition and will be limited to 2 pumps. Pump or lever rifles only, no CO powered rifles allowed. Rifles should be loaded with only one BB at a time and reloaded after each shot. Rifles must be transported in a case, carrying bag or box; penalty will be disqualification from shooting. Participants will take 10 shots from 5 meters in each position Prone, Kneeling, Standing and Sitting. Target used: AR-4/10
Explanation of Sights
Open Iron – Rear sight is adjustable with a notch of variable shapes, typically a “v” notch.
Peep – Rear sight is adjustable, is a round disc with a small hole (peep) in the center.
4-H Shotgun Contests (CANCELED)

All participants must be enrolled in 4-H at v2.4honline.com with the shotgun project selected if they want to participate. Enrollment includes a waiver for parents to sign that must be completed before participant is allowed to practice or compete. Participation in 3 shotgun practices is required to be able to compete in the competition.
PRACTICES: To be determined
Participants are required to wear a hat (baseball style), boots, eye and ear protection. Participants must provide their own firearm and ammunition or arrange to use club equipment. 20 or 12 gauge shotguns can be used. Participants must have a copy of their Hunter Safety Card on file at the County 4-H Office by June 15 to practice or compete. Shotguns must be transported in a case, carrying bag or box; penalty will be disqualification from shooting. Shotgun contest will consist of:
- Trapshooting: 16 yards, 2 rounds, 50 shots total
- Five-Stand: 2 rounds, 50 shots total
- Sporting Clays: 2 rounds, 50 shots total
- Skeet: 2 rounds, 50 shots total
