PRACTICES: Archery practices will be held at Bloomfield with the dates announced in the 4-H newsletter. If there is a possibility of bad weather, contact the shooting sports instructor for postponements or cancellations. (Randy Ohlfest at 402-640-8827 or 402-640-8824)
REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHERY: All shooters must attend at least two (2) practices each year with a certified leader to shoot at the official contest. A parent, guardian, and/or grandparent must be present with shooters under 16. 4-H shooters outside of Knox County will be allowed to compete with a written verification of practice from a certified 4-H shooting sports leader. The superintendent must have this written verification two (2) weeks before the competition. Shooters must be a member of a Knox County 4-H Club to compete. Practice dates will be announced in the 4-H newsletter.
KNOX COUNTY OFFICIAL CONTEST:
- The official Knox County Competition for Archery will be held on Sunday, August 9 at 2:00 pm at the Harm & Tulleys Event Center on the Knox County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield. (Date and time are subject to change.)
- Fees: A $5.00 fee will be charged for each 4-H member to participate in the contest. The fees will be paid to the Extension Office with the fair pre-entry forms.
- Trophies and Ribbons: Ribbons will be awarded to all participants and the top score in each class will receive a trophy. The point divisions may be adjusted the day of competition by the superintendent or the extension educator. The scoring tables are as follows:
Cub & Junior Divisions/All Classes & Senior Division Barebow (genesis)
White 0-74; Red 75-149; Blue 150-224; Purple 225-300
Senior Division Freestyle
White 0-149; Red 150-199; Blue 200-249; Purple 250-300
EXPLANATION OF ARCHERY CLASSES:
- Barebow: Arrows drawn by hand, no sights or stabilizers allowed.
- Freestyle: Arrows must be drawn and released by hand or use of mechanical release. No limit on sights or stabilizers.
- Recurve/Long Bow: arrows drawn by hand, no sights or stabilizers allowed.

The 8-10 age group (Cub) will shoot the following:
- Barebow, Recurve/Long Bow, Freestyle - 30 arrows at 10 yards.

The 11-13 age group (Junior) will shoot the following:

The 14-18 age group (Senior) will shoot the following:
- Freestyle – 30 arrows at 20 yards with a vegas style target face.
- Barebow & Recurve/Long Bow (Genesis) will shoot the following: 30 arrows at 20 yards.
