Vegetable gardening is gaining in popularity. As with anything, beginners make mistakes. But keep in mind everyone was once a beginner so don’t let mistakes stop you from trying.

As temperatures begin to rise and spring moves closer, don’t’ forget to take a bit of time to assess alfalfa stands for winter kill and overall health going into this year’s growing season. While this winter was much milder compared to what we experienced last year, older stands or late harvested alfalfa still have a potential for winter kill.
Even before plants begin to green up, individual plant assessments can be done. While assessment before green-up occurs may seem a bit preemptive, a bit of pre-scouting now can focus more accurate scouting efforts to problem areas later on when time becomes precious during spring planting.

Freezing Milk
While pasteurized milk can be frozen, it may separate or be slightly grainy when thawed. Frozen milk works best for cooking, but you may find it's still okay for drinking. Freeze milk in small containers and leave some extra space at the top since milk expands during freezing. Plan to use frozen milk within a month for best quality. Thaw milk in the refrigerator. During thawing, the fat in milk may separate from the water in milk – stir or shake well before using.
Freezing CheeseHard or semi-hard cheese can be frozen if cut in 1/2 to 1-pound blocks. Wrap in plastic wrap and then put in freezer bags. After freezing, cheese may become crumbly and mealy, but it will retain its flavor.

Tractors are part of rural life. They are agricultural equipment that can be spotted in fields, dirt roads, and highways. Typically driven by adults, farm families often hire their teenage children or their neighbors' teens to help with planting, harvesting, and other work. Each Spring across Nebraska, Tractor and Equipment Safety courses are held for 14-and 15-year-olds looking to be employed on farms and ranches.
