Knox County Library Programs
In March, Nebraska Extension in Knox County brought an engaging and educational program, “Pizza Farm,” to several area communities, including the Bloomfield, Creighton, Niobrara, Verdigre, and Wausa libraries, as well as the Isanti Community After School Program.
The program gave youth a hands-on opportunity to learn about the important role farmers play in producing the ingredients that make one of America’s favorite foods—pizza. From grains used in crust to dairy products like cheese and meats and vegetables for toppings, participants discovered how many different agricultural products come together in a single meal.
Activities throughout the session encouraged both learning and fun. Youth started by getting to know one another and sharing their favorite types of pizza. They then played an interactive bingo game featuring a variety of pizza toppings, reinforcing their understanding of the ingredients and where they come from.
The highlight of the program was the chance for each participant to create their own mini pizza. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply what they had learned while enjoying a creative and tasty treat.
The “Pizza Farm” program successfully combined education and entertainment, helping youth better appreciate agriculture while making lasting memories.
