2024 Summer Workshops

Summer 2024

Date/Time: May 29th & 30th from 12:30 pm.- 5 pm.
Ages: 12 to 18 years old
Cost $40

Topics covered will include Child Development, Safety, First Aid, CPR, Nutrition & General Care, the business of babysitting. A snack will be provided each day.

Ages: 5 to 8 years old
Cost: $15
Location: LLM Extension Office Meeting Room
Learn basic cake decorating skills using butter cream frosting and beginning decorating techniques. Youth are encouraged to bring at least one star tip and one line (writing) to the workshop. Each youth will decorate six cupcakes to take home.

Ages: 8 & Older
Cost: $25
Location: LLM Extension Office Meeting Room
Beginning skills for sewing on a sewing machine will be covered. Youth are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine, but a machine can be borrowed for an additional $10. Each participant will make a needle book, pin cushion, and a 4-patch pillow. Participants should bring a sewing machine, basic sewing notions including coordinating thread and bobbin, two pieces of felt any color, and 1/3 yard of contrasting woven fabrics for their pillow.

  • Barn Quilt Workshop
Date/Time: June 12th from 1 pm.- 4 pm.
Ages: 8 to 18
Cost: $70 (Make Checks Payable to Rose Mapel)
Location: LLM Extension Office Meeting Room
Come and create a barn quilt with a special guest Rose Mapel. She will be instructing you throughout this workshop to create a beautiful barn quilt.

Ages: 8 to 18
Cost: $20
Location: LLM Extension Office Meeting Room
Explore current fashion and various embellishment (or decorating) techniques to design a one-of-a-kind top that reflects your personality. Youth will choose to add at least two embellishment methods to show your style and create a one-of-a-kind t-shirt. Participants will also explore the science of color. Youth will select 6-8 photos of themselves wearing different colors and discover what looks best on them. Participants will leave with a poster to exhibit at fair. Can be entered in class C240-004 Show me your colors.

Ages: 10 & Older

Youth will learn to make a rope bowl using their own selected fabric and cotton roping. This technique is a great way to use up old strips of fabric. Youth need to bring at least 2 yards of coordinating fabric to class. All other supplies will be provided.

Explore what 4-H has to offer, create 3-4 projects to enter in county fair, and make a healthy snack.

Ages: 8 & Older
Cost: $30
Location: WCREEC (Research Center Classroom)
Learn the ingredients needed to make a muffin. Experiment with different ingredients to create muffins for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Youth will learn good food safety practices, explore sensory effectivness, how to correctly measure, success in baking, and how to calculate a nutrition analysis of a recipe.

Youth will dive into the 4-H woodworking project and make a versatile caddy out of a wood pallet. This project will be personalized with paint color and stencil design. All knowledge levels are welcome. Can be entered in class C258-904.

Learn the art of producing knots with textiles to create a macrame wall hanging for your room. Youth will learn basic knots: larks head knot, cow hitch knot, square knot, and the wrapping knot.

Location: Stapleton at the Logan Co. Fair Building
Youth will explore photography, air dry clay sculptures, and explore technology in agriculture!
*Must bring a sack lunch to this workshop*
*Logan County 4-H Council will pay the registration fee for Logan county 4-H enrolled members!*

Learn how to make the "best" popcorn possible. Youth will receive a bag of home-grown popcorn compliments of the UNL Extension TAPS Program, all while experiencing new herbs and spices to create a healthy topping for their popcorn.
