The 4-H swine show is a non-terminal show and marketing of the hogs is the exhibitor’s responsibility.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER EXHIBITOR: Four Market Hogs
ARRIVAL TIME – All market swine must check-in and weigh between 7:30 am to 9:00 am on entry day, Thursday, August 7 and stay the entire fair. Swine may be unloaded at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, August 6 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for vet inspection only. If swine are unloaded on Wednesday, it is the 4-H member’s responsibility to check-in and weigh their swine on Thursday.
YOUTH FOR THE QUALITY CARE OF ANIMALS (YQCA) - All 4-H youth enrolled in livestock projects are required to complete annual quality assurance training through YQCA.

WEIGHT LIMITS: The required weight limit for State Fair market hogs is a lower weight limit of 230 lbs. with an upper weight limit of 320 lbs. to qualify for the regular show. The lower weight limit of 230 lbs (+ or – 5 lbs) is the goal for all Knox County 4-H exhibitors also. There is NO upper weight limit for Knox County. It would be best if all market swine weighing less than 230 pounds not be brought to the fair. All light hogs will be allowed to show but will not be eligible for purple ribbons or allowed to compete for awards.
IDENTIFICATION: Market Hogs that are exhibited at the county fair may be identified with 4-H ear tags or with ear notches in both ears or an 840 EID tag available from the Extension Office and be recorded on the ownership affidavit that is due in the Extension Office by June 15.

BARROW BONANZA - The Farmers & Merchants State Bank is sponsoring a Barrow Bonanza to encourage the project. The FFA & 4-H top purple winners will compete against each other for the cash prizes.
First Place - Trophy + $75 Second Place - Trophy + $50 Third Place - Trophy + $25
GILT CLASSIC - The Farmers & Merchants State Bank is sponsoring a Gilt Classic to encourage the project. The FFA & 4-H top purple winners will compete against each other for the cash prizes.

4-H and FFA SWINE GAIN CONTEST
PREMIUMS: First, $5.00; Second, $4.00; Third, $3.00; Fourth, $2.00; Fifth, $1.00
To be considered for the Gain Contest, the market hogs must be weighed on the official weigh day set by the extension office. (Gilts entered in the Breeding Class are not eligible for the Rate-of-Gain Contest). The final weight will be determined on fair entry day. A trophy will be awarded to the Swine Gain Champion.

The 4-H exhibitor is eligible to exhibit one gilt in the Breeding Swine Class, (with a maximum of 4 swine entries). The breeding gilt must be born after December 1 of the pervious year and be identified with a 4-H ear tag or ear notches in both ears or with an 840 EID tag available from the Extension Office and be identified on the ownership affidavit that is due in the Extension Office by June 15. No weight limits apply. All breeds will be shown together but could be split by weights. Breeding swine are not eligible for the Rate-of-Gain Contest.
