ARRIVAL TIME – Dairy animals check-in between 9:00 am to 11:00 am on entry day, Thursday, August 7 and may stay the entire fair or be released after the show on Thursday, August 7. 

YOUTH FOR THE QUALITY CARE OF ANIMALS (YQCA) - All 4-H youth enrolled in livestock projects are required to complete annual quality assurance training through YQCA.

DAIRY IDENTIFICATION - Dairy animals must be identified by photograph, a sketch or by ear tattoo/tag on the ownership affidavit and due in the Extension Office by June 15. Each animal must have been raised or purchased by the club member before the animal has reached the age of three years. 

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER EXHIBITOR - A 4-H member is limited to three dairy animals. If the three qualify as a herd, they may be entered and shown in the Herd Class.

JUNIOR DAIRY HERD - Exhibitors who have made entry in the Junior Dairy Herd class must present their records (as indicated in the Dairy Production Class description) to verify production to the show superintendent when animals are checked in.

DAIRY BREEDS - (Registered and Grades Will Show Together) - Breeds include: AYRSHIRE, BROWN SWISS, GUERNSEYS, HOLSTEINS, JERSEY, MILKING SHORTHORN, and CROSSBRED.

Dry Cow Any Age
Two Year Olds must have freshened (9/1/22 to 8/31/23)
Three Year Olds (9/1/21 to 8/31/22)
Four Year Olds (9/1/20 to 8/31/21)
Five+ Year Olds (Prior to 9/1/20)

DAIRY HERD
PREMIUMS: Purple: $10.00; Blue: $8.00; Red: $6.00; White: $4.00
Exhibitors in the Dairy Herd class will enter three females. At least one of the three must be a cow that has freshened and has been fresh long enough to have a projected 305-day M.E. or most recent 305-day lactation if no M.E. is available. All animals must be owned by the exhibitor and the same breed. These must be pre-entered as a herd to qualify. IF THEY ARE NOT, THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW AS A HERD. Production records to be used for scoring in the Dairy Herd must meet the same criteria as those listed for Dairy Production Awards. No exceptions will be made. Herds will be scored and awarded ribbons on the basis of the current Dairy Herd Score Card. Crossbred animals are not eligible for dairy herd awards.
