YQCA Trainings

Nebraska 4-H requires all youth enrolled in livestock projects to complete an annual quality assurance training through the YQCA program. YQCA is a national multi-species quality assurance program focused on three core pillars: food safety, animal well-being, and character development. 4-H members who exhibit beef animals, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat goat, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and swine must have the YQCA certification completed before fair. This does not include Clover Kids. 4-H members who exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair will need to have their YQCA training requirements met by August 10.

● Online Test Out: This option is only available to youth in the first year of Intermediate (age 12) and Senior (age 15) age levels. There is no test-out option for Juniors. Costs are: Intermediate - $36 ($12 x 3 years of certification) and Senior - $48 ($12 x 4 years of certification). If you pass, you will not be required to complete the annual training requirements for the remainder of your current age level (Intermediates: 12-14; and Seniors: 15-18). Each test consists of fifty randomly selected questions and has a pass rate of 80% or better for certification. 2026 Knox County 4-H Fairbook is Available

Below are the 2026 Knox County 4-H Fairbook updates:

• Added a County Only Knox County Ag Division. Check out the projects unique to our county!

• Heirloom Treasures changed its name to Home Antique Restoration.
• Forestry Division has updates to each of its classes.
• Supporting Information has changed for some Quilt Quest Classes.
• Photography: County Challenge Theme – Nebraska Agriculture.
• Disaster Recovery & Response Classes were updated.

Cook-Off and Food Revue Contests

Make plans now to take part in the Cook-Off Contest and Food Revue Contest on Thursday, July 30 in Bloomfield. The Cook-Off Contest and Food Revue will begin at 5:30 p.m. Call the Extension Office to pre-register by July 28.A flier was included in the last newsletter with complete details or see the Fairbook.

The Food Revue Contest is open to all 4-H members including Clover Kids. This Contest is a fun way to learn how to properly set a table, plan nutritious meals, express originality and creativity in choosing a theme, and express knowledge of food, nutrition, and food safety. 

The Cook-Off Contest is only available to 4-H members (ages 8 and over) and the entry must include at least one pound of beef, pork, or poultry per four servings. Prepare your exhibit at home and bring the entire dish ready to serve, the entire recipe, the menu and a plate to serve a sample to the judge. 

If you have questions about the contests or need help in preparing, resources are available at the office.

4-H Talent Contest

Knox County 4-H Shooting Sports Program

The Shooting Sports projects and programs offer opportunities for youth to learn safe gun handling skills and sound fundamentals of shooting under the guidance of caring and knowledgeable adult volunteers. Knox County has certified leaders for the following projects: Archery; Air Rifle, Air Pistol, and BB Gun; Smallbore Rifle and Pistol (.22 caliber); and Shotgun. 

Youth must be enrolled with the Nebraska Extension 4-H Office in Knox County before participating in the Shooting Sports Projects and Contests.

  If any club would like to hold a concession stand during the Rifle and Shotgun Contest, contact the office.

The Dress Code for the official 4-H Shooting Sports Contests - shooters need to wear the official Knox County 4-H T-shirt (green or white) or a plain white T-shirt is acceptable and jeans or shorts.

Archery Practice Dates

At the fairgrounds in Bloomfield by the tractor pull area.  A parent, grandparent and or guardian needs to be present with shooters under the age of 16.   All shooters must attend at least 2 practices each year to participate in the official contest. There will be practice Monday July 6^th (7:00 p.m.), Sunday July 12th, Sunday July 26th and Sunday Aug. 2nd. All practice times are 6:00 p.m.

.22 Rifle, .22 Pistol and Shotgun Practice Dates

• Practices will be held every Thursday night in June and July.
• All Shotgun practices will start at 6:00 pm. 
• All .22 Pistol & .22 Rifle practices will start at 6:30 pm. Both will be held at the Knox County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield. 
• All practices will end at 8:30 pm, NO EXCEPTIONS. 
• All shooters must attend at least 2 practices each year to participate in the official contest. 
• Members must hold a valid hunter safety card and are determined by the leaders to be able to handle firearms safely.
• If there is any question about the weather on a given night, visit the Knox County Shooting Sports Group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/211566702207387/) for updates.

BB Gun, Air Rifle & Air Pistol Practice Dates

Practices will be held on July 13, 20, and 27; August 3. Practices will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the fairgrounds in Bloomfield by the tractor pull area. All shooters must attend at least 2 practices each year to participate in the official contest. 

Official BB Gun, Air Rifle & Air Pistol Contest

The BB Gun & Air Rifle will be shooting 10 shots from each of the four positions: prone, kneeling, standing and sitting.

If you are in BB Gun, Air Rifle and/or Air Pistol, please be there to shoot by 5:15 p.m.  Don’t wait until your assigned time to try to do all disciplines.  

Last call will be at 7:15 p.m. Awards will be presented at 8:00 p.m.

Shooters need to bring their gun and safety glasses and have a partner/coach to assist. If you are the coach or partner, please bring a chair.  There are NO SCOPES on BB Guns or Air Rifles. If you unable to make your time slot to shoot, you will be moved to the next available time slot or fit in whenever you arrive.

Horse News!

The 4-H Horse Show and Judging Guide has been updated to the 2025 version. This handbook covers uniform regulations and procedures in 4-H light horse shows and events throughout the state. It is complete with sample courses, charts, and score sheets.

Knox County 4-H Horse Riding Practice 
Hosted by Terri Rose and assisted by Michaela Jessen

The goal of this gathering is to help build individual skills used in riding classes such as pleasure, ranch riding, horsemanship, and speed classes. If you have a request, please let them know! Location will be the Knox County Fairgrounds and vary between the outdoor arena (free to all) and the Harm & Tulleys Event Center (membership terms apply).

The Nebraska 4-H Premier Communication Event features a variety of state-level communication contests. The two-day event was held at the University of Nebraska East Campus in Lincoln on
June 16-17, 2026.

County Fair Information

4-H T-Shirts

4-H T-shirts are available at the Extension Office for showing your animal projects at the fair. They will also be available at the 4-H Office during the County Fair. The cost of the green 4-H T-shirts is: Youth (8-10, 10-12 & 14-16) and Adult (Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL, XXXL) - $12.00 each. 

Dress Code: 4-H exhibitors showing any animal projects (beef, dairy, sheep, goats, swine, cat, dog, poultry, pets and rabbits may wear a long-sleeve white shirt, white T-shirt (no club names), or the official Knox County T-shirt (either the green or the white T-shirt) and blue or dark jeans are preferred. No neck ties, hats, caps or other type of headgear are to be worn in the show ring. Hard soled shoes or boots are recommended. Horse show exhibitors will find dress code regulations in the Horse Division of the fairbook. 

Bucket Calf Project

Bucket calves need to be entered on Thursday, August 13 from 9-11 am and may be released after the show on Friday or stay the entire fair. Bucket Calf projects will be judged on 3 factors: 1/3 project record book; 1/3 interview; and 1/3 show ability of animal (handling, cleanliness, health). Bucket calf record books must be turned into the 4-H Fair Office by 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12 so that the record book judging can take place prior to the show. The Bucket Calf Show will start at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14. (No record book for Clover Kids bucket calf.) Bucket Calves will not be allowed to participate in the Feeder Calf Showmanship. This is for feeder calves only.  Bucket Calf showmanship will be part of the Bucket Calf Show. Recognition will be given to the top record book score, top interview score, and top show score in the Bucket Calf Show. The recognition awards will be provided by Rader Feed & Supply of Creighton this year!

Bucket calf record books are split into a Beginning Level (ages 8-12 on Jan 1) and Advanced Level (ages 13 & over on Jan 1). Second Year Bucket Calf Project

For those in the Second Year Bucket Calf project, the animals need to be entered on Thursday, 
August 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and stay the entire fair. Showmanship and judging will take place on Sunday, August 16 during the Large Beef Show. Record books need to be handed in on entry day, Thursday, August 13 by 6:00 p.m.  The record book from the previous year needs to be handed in also. 4-H Round Robin Contest

The 15th Annual 4-H Round Robin Showmanship Contest will be held on Sunday, August 16.  4-H Dress Code is required. The Round Robin Showmanship Contest provides an opportunity for the 4-H Champion and Reserve Champion Senior and Junior Division Showman from the large animal species (horse, feeder calf, meat goat, sheep, swine, and large beef) to compete for the best all-around senior and junior showman honors at the fair. It is very possible that one of the reserve showman could be named as Champion Round Robin Showman. Complete rules are available on page 20 of the fairbook. 

Belt Buckles for Round Robin Contest

Belt buckles will be given to the Champion and Reserve Champion Senior and Junior Showman. Thanks to Jesse & Adele Rader, Rader Feed & Supply LLC, Creighton for sponsoring the belt buckles. 

Attention Swine Exhibitors

Swine may be unloaded at the fairgrounds for vet inspection only on Wednesday, August 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  Exhibitors still need to bring their hogs back on Thursday morning from 7:30-9 am to check-in (market or breeding) and be weighed. The decision at the scale is final. No changes can be made to market or breeding after check-in.

The Swine Show is non-terminal. Show and marketing of the hogs is the exhibitor’s responsibility.

Breeding Swine Class - Each exhibitor is eligible to enter one gilt in the Breeding Swine Class. You must decide at check-in which gilt you are entering, and the breeding gilt is not eligible for the Rate-of-Gain Contest. The decision at the scale is final. No changes can be made to market or breeding after check-in.

It is extremely important that hogs are not fed in the wash racks as it clogs up the drainage system. Please feed them in their pens!

What Is Herdsmanship?

This may be old news to many of our 4-H members, but it is important for ALL of us to remember what Herdsmanship is about if you are exhibiting livestock at the County Fair. 

Herdsmanship is the way that a 4-Her displays his or her animals at the Fair. It refers to how neat and attractive 4-H members keep the livestock barn. It also shows how well you care for your animals. At County Fair, State Fair, AKSARBEN and other events 4-H’ers are judged on Herdsmanship. The overall purpose of this is to:

1. Develop knowledge and skill in proper handling and stabling of livestock.

2. Develop knowledge & skill in proper care and use of equipment.

3. Present to Fair visitors a neat, attractive, and well-kept livestock exhibit. 

4. Develop club spirit, pride, and cooperation.

Let’s all put forth an extra effort with Herdsmanship this year to present an inviting atmosphere to the public. 

4-H Showmanship Champions & Reserve Champions

The 4-H Council will once again acknowledge the champion & reserve champion showmanship winners. This year, the champion showman in the novice, junior, and senior divisions of all species will be awarded a Hoodie. The reserve champion showman in the novice, junior, and senior divisions of all species will be awarded a t-shirt. Winners will need to stop in the 4-H Office on the fairgrounds to place your order in by 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 16.  If you fail to put your order in, you will not receive your award. 

 No Entry Fees This Year for Livestock

There were no entry fees this year for your animals because of these sponsors: the Vet inspection is being sponsored by Farm Credit Services of America, PO Box 196, Yankton, SD 57078, and the wood chips are being sponsored by Mark Miller, LLC, 88818 543 Ave, Bloomfield, NE 68718.   Please send a thank you for their generous donation. 

Livestock Vet Inspection

There will be a veterinarian responsible for inspecting your beef, dairy, swine, sheep and goats for clinical health signs as they are checked in. Animals cannot unload until the vet gives approval. The vet will be in the area on the east side of the Harm & Tulleys Event Center to inspect animals before unloading. 

Livestock Judging Contest

The Livestock Judging Contest will be on Thursday, August 13 starting at 12:30 p.m. Registration will begin at noon in the 4-H Office. The contest is set-up to be a learning clinic. It’s recommended that all 4-H’ers and their parents participate. Youth that are not enrolled in a livestock project are encouraged to participate. There are five classes to judge: horses, meat goats, swine, sheep, and beef. Plan now to join us!

County Fair Wood Chips and Clean-Up

There will be a pile of coarse wood mulch outside the Harm & Tulleys Event Center that is available for all livestock exhibitors in the Event Center. All exhibitors will be responsible for getting their own wood mulch to their stalls. Please bring wheel barrels and shovels if you have them. There will be 2 bags of wood chips per pen this year for the sheep, goats and swine. If you need more, it will be your responsibility.

All exhibitors in the Swine Barn and Event Center will be responsible for cleaning up their stalls when they leave on Sunday night.  This means cleaning up all the wood chips and taking them to the designated area or dumpsters, which will be posted. Please bring rakes to clean the chips out of the sand.  Clean-up for exhibitors in the Sheep/Goat Barn will be posted. No manure will be piled on the west side of the Sheep/Goat Barn. 

Be resourceful in your use of the wood chips. Pens/stalls do not have to be changed every day - they can be spot cleaned. Feed and water buckets are not to be in pens except during feeding or watering times. 

Again, we appreciate the cooperation of all 4-H and FFA families.

Unloading Large Beef Animals

For safety purposes, the 4-H Council is asking that you unload your large beef animals at the north end of the Harm & Tulleys Event Center and enter the north entrance to check-in with the beef superintendents.

Sheep, Goat & Bucket Calf Check-In

After your sheep, goats (including Companion Animals), and bucket calves have been vet inspected and unloaded, check-in with the Sheep/Goat and Bucket Calf superintendents located in the Sheep/Goat Barn. For safety purposes, do not check-in your bucket calf with the Large Beef Superintendents in the Harm & Tulleys Event Center.

Blow and Show at the Fair

All livestock shows at the Knox County Fair will be groomed with the method of “Blow and Show”. The judging of animals will be done on the “Blow and Show” where no adhesives or color enhancers will be allowed. Clear body foam will be allowed. Animals will be docked a ribbon placing if rules are not followed. See page 18-19 of the County Fairbook for the Grooming of Livestock.

4-H Code of Conduct

The primary goal of the 4-H Program is to help youth develop competency in their projects, confidence in themselves and others, connections to their community and sound character. Actions by persons (Parents, and 4-Her’s) involved with the 4-H Program will be consistent with the six core ethical values comprising good character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and citizenship. As a 4-H Participant/Parent/Guardian I will:

• Treat all people and property with respect, courtesy, consideration, and compassion. Avoid and prevent putdowns, insults, name calling, swearing, and other language or nonverbal conduct likely to offend, hurt or set a bad example.
• Keep informed about 4-H program policies and projects and read materials pertaining to the county 4-H program.
• Teach and model kindness and compassion for others. Recognize that all people have skills and talents which can be used to help others and improve the community. Teach and foster teamwork and discourage selfishness.
• Practice fair-mindedness by being open to ideas, suggestions, and opinions of others. I will make all reasonable efforts to assure equal access to participation for all youth and adults regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin or disability. Decisions will be made fairly and treat all individuals and families with impartiality.
• Obey laws and rules as an obligation of being a good citizen. I accept responsibility for the proper treatment and care for other youth and adults, the program facilities and/or equipment.
• Demonstrate the responsible treatment of animals and stewardship of the environment.
• Not use alcohol or illegal substances (or be under the influence) while working with or participating in any part of the 4-H Program.

• Provide a safe environment for all parties involved in 4-H. I will protect those involved from sexual harassment, physical force, verbal or mental abuse, neglect, or other harmful behaviors.

  Homemade Goodies for the 4-H Pop Stand
  We are looking for any 4-H families who would like to donate individually wrapped bars, cookies or snack mixes to the 4-H Pop Stand during the fair. They can be left at the 4-H Pop Stand or 4-H Office on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday of the Knox County Fair.

4-H Pop Stand Schedule

Thanks to all the clubs for helping with the 4-H Pop Stand. The 4-H Pop Stand raises money for the 4-H Council to use for 4-H programming. We have put together a schedule for this year. If your club cannot work at the time scheduled, please let us know immediately. Please remind 4-H members to wash their hands before working in the pop stand.  Again, thanks for your help.

Show Ring Clean-up Assignments

To keep the Show Ring (seating area) clean, we will assign 4-H Clubs with livestock interest to Livestock Show Ring Clean-up. Show Ring Clean-up will be reflected on herdsmanship scores. Please pick up trash and brooms will be available in the 4-H Office for check-out to sweep the seats in the Old Show Barn (OSB) and the Harm & Tulleys Building. Clean-up should be done right after the show is over at the approximate times. Thanks!

4-H Static Building Schedule

It is that time of year again—FAIR TIME!!!  We are asking clubs and Independent Families to help us supervise the 4-H Static building.We greatly appreciate your help!  Please be present to make sure projects have not been moved, played with, or damaged. If there are any Independent Families willing to volunteer, please contact the office. Any time slots not filled will be times that the 4-H Static Building is open unsupervised and may put our 4-Her’s projects at risk. Thank you for volunteering and for all you do to make the Knox County 4-H Program a success.

Entering Non-Livestock (Static) 4-H Exhibits

All exhibits, other than livestock, will need to be entered on Wednesday, August 12 between 
4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Entries must be entered at the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds. Clover Kids need to enter exhibits, other than animal exhibits, at this time as well.

Check the guidelines in the 4-H fairbook and re-check all exhibits to see that additional information is attached to the project.  Information sheets are needed in the following areas:

■ Photography exhibits require Data Tags (see pgs 51-53 of fairbook). Data Tags are available at https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/knox/knox-county-fairbook/static-exhibits/photography/ 

■ Home Design & Restoration projects - supporting information is required for all Home Design & Restoration exhibits (pgs 75-77). Attach information to explain steps taken. Information must also include element or principle of design used https://go.unl.edu/knoxcountyhomedesignandrestoration

■ Food Preservation exhibits must include the recipe and Food Preservation Card (pgs 104-107)

■ Citizenship exhibits require supporting information (pg 112-114)

■ Floriculture & Horticulture exhibits require the cultivar or variety name 

■ Rockets must include a report (pg 135-136)

■ Welding exhibits require information attached (pgs 137-138)

■ Woodworking exhibits require the plans attached (pgs 138-140)

Attach the information sheets to the exhibit as securely as possible. Please have your name on any additional sheets. We want to be able to reattach them if they do get separated.  Thanks for your help in making entry day as smooth as possible.

Attention Horticulture Exhibitors

If you do not list the cultivar or variety name when you pre-enter your flower or vegetable exhibits, you will need to do so at entry time. Failure to identify the cultivar or variety will drop the entry one ribbon placing.  Please read the requirements in the fairbook. Open Class Exhibits at the Fair

4-H members, remember you can enter exhibits in the Open Class at the County Fair. So, bring your extra plate of cookies, extra vegetables or flowers, etc. to the Open Class building.  The check-in time is the same as the 4-H entry time, 4-8 pm on Wednesday, August 12. 

Foods Exhibits Helpful Hints & Reminders

FOODS AND NUTRITION GENERAL RULES (See Fairbook for complete rules)

1. Supporting Information - Each exhibit must include the recipe. Recipe may be handwritten, copied, or typed. Place the food on the appropriately sized disposable plate or container and in a self-sealing bag. Attach recipe at the corner of the bag on the outside. Additional information including recipes and supplemental information should be identified with 4-H member’s name and county.
2. Criteria for Judging - Exhibits will be judged according to scoresheets available at the Extension Office or at http://go.unl.edu/ne4hfood-nutrition.  Make sure to follow all entry instructions required for your exhibit. Incomplete exhibits will be lowered a ribbon placing.  Commercially prepared mixes are ONLY allowed in Cooking 201 Creative Mix Class. Prepared baking mixes, biscuit mixes, commercially prepared seasoning mixes for food preservation or other pre-made mixes entered in other categories will be lowered a ribbon placing.
3. Ingredients: Any ingredient that the 4-H member uses must be able to be purchased by the 
   4-H member. Ingredients such as beer, whiskey, rum, etc. may NOT be used in any recipe file or food exhibit. Exhibits that include alcohol will be disqualified. 
4. Sourdough is categorized differently than standard yeast breads due to its unique leavening agent and fermentation process and may ONLY be entered in Cooking 201 Baking with Whole Grains, Cooking 401 Family Food Traditions, or Cooking 401 Ethnic Food Exhibit.
5. Food Safety: Exhibits are on display for several days. Please think FOOD SAFETY!  Items that require refrigeration will not be accepted, judged or displayed as exhibits must be safe to eat when entered, whether they are tasted or not. Glazes, frostings, and other sugar-based toppings are considered safe due to their high sugar content. Egg glazes on yeast breads and pie crusts BEFORE baking are acceptable. Eggs incorporated into baked goods and crusts are considered safe. The following food ingredients are considered UNSAFE for fair exhibits and will be disqualified: 
   • Egg or cream fillings and cream cheese frostings
   • Any meat item including meat jerky, imitation meat bits (bacon bits, pepperoni, etc.)
   • Melted cheese on top of food exhibit (cheese mixed into baked goods is considered safe and will be accepted)
   • Uncooked fruit or vegetable toppings (i.e., fresh fruit tart). 

FOOD PRESERVATION (See Fairbook for complete rules)

1. Processing Methods: Current USDA processing methods and altitude adjustments must be followed for all food preservation. Jams, preserves and marmalades, fruit, tomatoes and pickled products must be processed in a boiling water bath. Tomatoes may be processed in a pressure canner. All non-acid vegetables and meats must be processed in a pressure canner. Improperly canned or potentially hazardous food items will be disqualified. Spoiled or unsealed container disqualifies entry. 
2. Current Project: Exhibits must have been preserved since the 4-H member’s previous year’s county fair and not been exhibited at the previous State Fair.
3. Labeling: Jars should be labeled with the name of the food item, name of the 4-H member, county, and date of processing on the bottom of each jar, print labels from https://go.unl.edu/canninglabel. Exhibits containing multiple jars such as a “3 jar exhibit” should be placed in a container to keep jars together. Each bag containing dried foods should also be labeled with the name of the food item, the name of the 4-H member, county and drying date. Multiple dried food exhibits should be secured by a rubber band or “twisty” to keep exhibit containing the three self-sealing bags together.
4. Recipe/Supporting Information: Any recipe from a family member or friend needs to be from an approved USDA Source. Recipe must be included, can be handwritten, photocopied, or typed. Commercially prepared seasoning mixes are not allowed. Current USDA guidelines for food preservation methods MUST be followed.
5. All exhibits must include the 4-H Food Preservation Card attached to the project as the required supporting information (see below or at https://go.unl.edu/fillablepreservationcard) or include the following information with exhibit:
   • Name of product
   • Date preserved
   • Method of preservation (pressure canner, water bath canner or dried)
   • Type of pack (raw pack or hot pack)
   • Altitude (and altitude adjustment, if needed)
   • Processing time
   • Number of pounds of pressure (if pressure canner used)
   • Drying method and drying time (for dried food exhibits)
   • Recipe and source of recipe (if a publication, include name and date)

Clover Kids Visit the Fair

We are excited to have 76 Clover Kids enrolled this year. The goal is to encourage the Clover Kids and make this a good learning experience.  Everyone receives a special Clover Kid participation ribbon for their exhibit.

Entry For Clover Kids Non-Animal Exhibits: All exhibits, except animals, should be entered at the 4-H Building on Wednesday, August 12 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The Clover Kids will be interviewed during check-in of their exhibits. All Clover Kids are encouraged to participate in the interviewing of their exhibits, but it is not required. Clover Kids are limited to one exhibit per entry number.

Dummy Roping will be done during the Horse Show on Wednesday, August 12at 1:00 pm at the Horse Arena located at the northwest corner of the fairgrounds.

Entering Clover Kid Animal Exhibits That Stay the Whole Fair: If you plan to keep your Bucket Calf, Bottle Lamb, or Companion Goat the entire fair, they need to be entered from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, August 13. Please have your calf, lamb, or goat vet checked and then check-in with the Superintendents (located in the Sheep/Goat Barn). Bucket calves, lambs and goats will be stalled in this building.

Pigs will check-in from 7:30 am to 9:00 am on Thursday, August 13 and must stay the entire fair. The pigs will be stalled in the Swine Barn. If you can’t find your stall or pen, check with the 4-H Office.

If you plan to keep your rabbit or chicken the entire fair, they need to be entered on Thursday, August 13 from 8 am – 11 am in the Rabbit & Poultry Barn that is next to the Harm & Tulleys Event Center. 

Entry for Clover Kid Animal Exhibits the Day of the Show: If you are bringing your poultry or rabbit exhibit the day of the show, they need to be checked in 15 minutes before the show starts.

Bucket calves that are being brought in the day of the show need to be checked in between 8:30 and 9:30 am on Friday, August 14 to be vet checked.  Then, please check in with the 4-H Office. The Clover Kid Bucket Calf Show starts at 10:00 am. 

Bottle Lambs and Companion Goats that are being brought in the day of the show need to be checked in between 11:00 to 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 15 to be vet checked. Please check in at the 4-H Office to let us know your lamb/goat is here.

 The Clover Kids exhibits will be interviewed at the beginning of each show. They are encouraged to watch the rest of the show. Animal exhibits will be interviewed as follows:

4-H Project Showcase

The 4-H Project Showcase is an opportunity for members to show off their favorite project or maybe a project that didn't go as planned! All projects are eligible regardless of the awards received through judging or even the ability to have it judged at the county level. Projects submitted by August 10 will be showcased on the 4-H Video Wall at the Nebraska State Fair! Projects may also be featured online throughout the year.

Nebraska State Fair 4-H Culinary Challenge!

A challenge ingredient will be selected each year, highlighting a Nebraska commodity food product. The 2026 challenge ingredient is potatoes. Please keep food safety in mind when selecting the recipe used for the Challenge. Foods must be able to be kept chilled during transport to the contest, then be able to be re-heated in a microwave if needed. Each team must incorporate the challenge ingredient into their food item they will be presenting during the contest. This may require altering a recipe or creatively incorporating an item into their overall table theme. The challenge ingredient must also be included in the interview presentation, demonstrating youth knowledge of the ingredient, such as nutritional value, a farm-to-fork concept, or how to adapt a recipe to include the ingredient.
