Rules and regulations as set forth in the most recent/current Nebraska 4‑H Horse Show and Judging Guide (2024), available from the Extension office, will be used.
All Horse Level testing to become eligible for classes at the Burt County Fair must be completed by June 30th.
An exhibitor is allowed two halter class entries, but they cannot be in the same class. An exhibitor or horse may appear only once in any class.
A committee appointed by the superintendents will check all animals entered in pony classes (14.2 hands and under).
Age divisions are: Junior – 8-12 years old; Senior – 13-18 years old.
To be eligible for classes above “Walk-Trot” exhibitors must have passed their Horse Level 1 testing by June 30th. If a horse lopes more than three strides in any “Walk-Trot” class, the ribbon will be dropped to a red.
Halter classes: will be divided into pony and horse classes. Horse halter classes will be divided between mares and geldings. Only mares and geldings may be shown at halter and under saddle (weanling studs permitted at halter). If the member has two or more animals in the same class (ex. Mare & Foal), one animal can be shown by another 4‑H or FFA member enrolled in Burt County.
A champion “High Point Exhibitor” will be selected in the Junior and Senior Divisions. It will be based on the points a rider accumulates in 1 halter and 4 performance classes.
Riders of all 4-H ages will show together in Pony Pleasure and both English classes.
Horse Exhibitor Dress Code: Horse exhibitors shall wear hard-soled boots, long sleeve white shirts or blouses and dark blue denim jeans. 4-H armbands are required. (See section on attire in 4-H 373 Horse Judging Guidebook for further details.)
Also refer to General 4‑H and FFA Rules.
Walk Trot Class Eligibility: If an exhibitor rides in any or all, classes 004, 009, or 019 they cannot participate in any other riding class. No high Point Buckle points will be awarded for classes 004, 010, 011, 016, 019, 022, 023, or 024. To be eligible for classes above “Walk-Trot” exhibitors must have passed their Horse Level 1 testing prior to the county fair.
