HOMEGROWN CLASSES
The purpose of the homegrown classes is for youth to have the opportunity to experience the market animal project from breeding through marketing of the animal. Exhibitors in this division should gain and be able to demonstrate skills in animal management, care, and record keeping through this project. The member should provide a majority of the labor for the project. Only one market animal per exhibitor per species may be exhibited in the homegrown classes. A homegrown animal is not required to show in the homegrown classes.
Each market livestock show (market beef, market sheep, market swine and market meat goats) will have a “homegrown class” that will compete against other class or division champions for grand champion in that species. To be eligible for the “home grown” class, the exhibitor (or exhibitor’s parents) must be in possession of and own the dam of the animal at the time of birth of the animal being exhibited in this class. The homegrown animal(s) must be housed on property owned or rented by the youth's immediate family (parents or grandparents) throughout the entire duration of the project cycle.
