Quilt of Valor
On Sunday, January 26, 2025, the Colfax County 4-H Council held their annual Volunteer Banquet at the St. Benedict Center near Schuyler. During the banquet a very special presentation was made. A Quilt of Valor, sewn by Colfax County 4-H members was presented to a Colfax County Veteran. A Quilt of Valor is a quilt sewn of Americana fabric and presented to service members to welcome them home. As part of the Quilt of Valor Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation of volunteer quilters, the quilt presented was created by Colfax County 4-H members as a service project.
The quilt presented during the banquet was presented to Kenny Blum. Kenny joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1968 and served for several years before he re-enlisted in 1990 and was deployed to Saudi Arabia, where he drove Army supply trucks and was responsible for setting up Army camps. In addition to being an MP, or Military Police, he was a 95th Division Instructor in Fort Des Moines Army Base in Des Moines, Iowa. He served for a total of 26 ½ years. Kenny has been a member of the Honor Guard, VFW, and a lifetime member of the Schuyler Legion.
The quilt was presented by the Colfax County 4-H members that pieced it together; Lindley Bailey, Justin Eisenmann and Kara Eisenmann of Schuyler, Alyse Wolfe and Brielle Wolfe of Richland and Bailey Prinz of Clarkson.
