Dress code - see page 3. Preregistration is due July 7.
Show sticks are acceptable for all beef classes.
Fitting your calf is optional.
Animals must always be under control of exhibitor. Example: Bucket calves are not to run free in pens.
DEPARTMENT G - DIVISION 802
Market Beef
Classes will be divided according to weight and number in class. All calves will be weighed at the fairgrounds. There is no limit on the number of beef each exhibitor can show. Order of showing will be posted the day before showing. All calves will be weighed on Thursday July 31, 7-8:30 a.m.
Grand Champion Steer and Heifer will each receive $20.
Reserve Champion Steer and Heifer will each receive $15.

Breeding Heifers
Breeding heifers are to be ID’d by JUNE 1. (An animal cannot be shown as both market and breeding as feeding and finishing is not the same for both.) Classes will be broken by breed and age on entry day, and an overall champion selected from the top two class winners from each class of breeding heifers and cow/calf pairs.
Grand Champion Breeding Heifer will receive $20.
Reserve Champion Breeding Heifer will receive $15.

Cow Calf Pairs
Both cow and calf must be halter broke. Two exhibitors will show this class, one showing the cow and one showing the calf. Cow calf pairs must be ID’d and forms turned into the Extension Office by JUNE 1. The calf from this class may also be shown as a feeder calf. Cow/calf must be a mother and calf (bull, steer, or heifer). Calf is eligible for feeder calf class IF it is a steer or heifer. It may NOT show as a feeder if it’s a bull. Enter cow’s tattoo/ear tag number and the 4-H ear tag number of calf’s tag on the ID sheets.
Grand Champion Cow Calf Pair will receive $20.
Reserve Champion Cow Calf Pair will receive $15.

Feeder Calves
Feeder calves must be born after January 1, 2025. All 4-H feeder calves must be shown by halter. The show will be Friday, August 2 during the beef show. This allows feeder calves to be shown in the beef showmanship class. All males must be steers. Feeder calves staying at the Fairgrounds or be released is up to the Fair board policy.

Reserve Champion Steer and Heifer will each receive $15.

Bucket Calves No State Fair Entry

Bucket Calf record books are required. Record books due the Wednesday of the Fair at NOON. Turn in to the 4-H office.
- To qualify in this division each calf entered must be identified and recorded with the county extension office.
- 4-H exhibitors in this division are limited to 8-12 years of age. Those who have had their 13th birthday before January 1 of the current year are ineligible.
- Each exhibitor will be limited to one entry.
- All calves must be born during the current year between, February 1 and June 1. Must have ID sheets turned in by June 1.
- Calves must be shown by halter.
- The classes will be judged by conference method based on:
- What the 4-H member learned about caring for and raising the calf.
- Fitting and showing according to either beef or dairy guidelines, with emphasis on how much the 4-H member learned and can do without help. Parental guidance is encouraged. Full scale show-type fitting is not encouraged, and calf may be just washed and cleaned.
- Beef or dairy quality of calf should not be considered since purchase is not made on that basis.
- Classes may be split (if numbers warrant) according to:
- Species of calves (beef or dairy)
- Age of 4-H member (8-9 years old, 10-12 years old)
908. Bucket Calf (4-H’ers age 8-12) CLOVERBUD Bucket calves will be stalled during the Fair.
Steers or heifers only – No Bull calves.
A scorecard will be used to evaluate the project. Ribbon placing will be determined by the following considerations and be given by the official contest judge:
1. Evaluation of knowledge by an interview 2. Health, quality, and condition of calf
3. Evidence of training 4. Record Book
Grand and reserve champion bucket calf will be named.
Home Grown
Animals should be in possession of 4-H’er within 1 month of birth. Any home-grown beef is eligible for this class: market, breeding, cow calf pair, feeder calf & bucket calf.
