Recent foodborne illness outbreaks have many people concerned about the safety of the food we eat. Nebraska Extension will be holding in person ServSafe Food Handlers classes in February, April, May, and September; and in person ServSafe Manager Classes in March, May, August and October for food service managers and employees who would like to update their food safety knowledge and skills. All classes will be presented by Nebraska Extension Educators certified in the ServSafe program.
Social Security is a social insurance plan for retirement. Workers and their employers contribute to Social Security when they work. The Social Security Act was signed into law in 1935 and there has been numerous provisions since that time but Americans who are 65 and older qualify.
Nebraska Extension will be offering a 1-hour physical fitness class the first and third Friday’s each month beginning February 2, 2024.
The SAIL program is an evidence-based program developed by Washington State for adults who are 65 and older. Nebraska Extension Educator, Brenda Aufdenkamp has recently received her instructor certification.
The class will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM the first and third Friday each month for $10.00 per adult participant.
Research has shown that you will be stronger, have better balance, feel better, and allow you to stay independent, active and prevent falls.

New Format for Nebraska Soybean Management Field Days

The 2024 Soybean Management Field Days will take place August 13 to August 16. Hosted by the Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) and Nebraska Extension, the field days offer a unique opportunity for farmers to learn about soybean production, the new Soybean Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) contest, and to network with fellow growers.

Heat keeps rains away during wheat harvest

Amid the high temperatures in western Nebraska, wheat harvest has been going on.
“We’re right in the middle of wheat harvest,” said Cody Creech, Nebraska Extension dryland cropping specialist at the UNL High Plains Ag Lab in Sidney. “The rest of the state has wrapped up, and we’ll be completing harvest this week.”
Typical for most growers, weather has been a big factor in wheat yields. The yield reports in the Panhandle vary depending on whether the fields were hit by hail or not.
