Market Beef Weigh Day February 2, 9-11 a.m.

It is about that time of year again when we need to get organized for the new 4-H season.   With that comes the requirements for identifying your animals.  Please read through this information carefully and if you have any questions, please contact the Extension office.

Market Beef

  • You are no longer required to attend a market beef weigh day to be eligible to show. HOWEVER, if you are wanting to be a part of the County Fair Rate of Gain contest, you are required to weigh your market beef animals on Saturday, February 2nd from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the Masonic Home for Children, Leonard A. Johnson Building. You will want to enter the west entrance from Hwy 77.
  • If you want your animals weighed in at weigh day, but have a conflict, please send your animals with someone else.  You are not required to be present that day… only your critters.
  • Both a parent and the exhibitor are required to sign the DNA envelope.
  • We will be using EID tags again this year.  Both 4-H and FFA will be using the same tags and animals should be identified on the same ID sheet.
  • All 4-H and FFA MARKET animals carrying an EID tag are required to have a Premise ID. (This includes any that may show at only the county level as well.)
  • If you do not attend weigh day, you have until April 15th to identify your market beef for eligibility to exhibit in 2018.
  • Tags will be $2 per tag, this year due to no longer having funds from the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, the Nebraska State Fair, the Nebraska 4-H Foundation, and Nebraska FFA Foundation covering the cost.
  • DNA is required for any market beef animal that is being exhibited at the Nebraska State Fair or AKSARBEN Stock Show.  There is a $7 fee per animal for DNA.  If you are pulling your own DNA, you will need to get envelopes from the extension office prior to pulling the hair.
  • Exhibitors wishing to exhibit at the Nebraska State Fair will be responsible for submitting their animal information into the Show Stock Manager prior to April 15. Watch for step by step instructions for doing this.
  • For information about DNA and exhibiting at AKSARBEN please visit https://www.aksarbenstockshow.com/ or contact sleonhard@showaksarben.com.
