Cat Club

If you love cats and you’re looking for a way to learn more about them and possibly get involved in 4-H, this just might be “purr-fect!”

Cat Club is a monthly webinar series offering educational information about caring for your cat and showing your cat in 4-H. Youth do not need to be enrolled in 4-H or in the 4-H cat project to participate. Cat Club is a great resource for anyone interested in showing cats in 4-H whether you have one now or not!

Estimating Corn Yields

            This is the time of year when many people want to get an estimate of what their corn will yield. While recent rains may benefit soybeans more than corn, they should help improve corn test weight. To get an estimate on your corn yield, you will need to get an estimate on ears per acre, rows of kernels per ear, and kernels per row.

Corn Disease Making Early Appearance

            There are two diseases appearing in Nebraska corn fields that farmers should keep a close eye on. The first is southern rust. This is not a new disease, but what is different is it is appearing in fields earlier in the growing season than we normally see it. We have not confirmed it in Burt, Dakota or Thurston Counties yet, but it has been found in several eastern and northeastern Nebraska counties. This is significant because, for a combination of factors, it could be more damaging this year.
