Dicamba Training 2108

One of the biggest changes in crop production in the 2017 growing season was the release of dicamba tolerant (DT) soybeans. This technology was great in that it gave farmers a new tool to use in the control of some herbicide resistant and otherwise difficult to control broadleaf weeds. The not-so-great results of this technology was it contributed to a problem with dicamba drifting off-site at the time of application or volatilizing and moving off-site after it had been applied.

Help Needed for Quilts of Valor

The Logan Valley Quilters Guild have requested help from our 4-H faithful to assist them on a Sewing Day, Saturday, February 17th.

The Sewing Day will be held in Oakland at the Golden Oaks Senior Center from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

The Logan Valley Quilters have made and given away 19 quilts already and there is a big demand for them.

They need 4-H members, parents and others for a variety of jobs including sewing, ironing, laying out patterns, etc.

If you can spare an hour or two…or more they would greatly appreciate the help!

4-H Snow/Snowless Sculptures

This winter has been one of the strangest I can remember. It has just been a yo-yo! It snows, then melts away in 40+ degree weather, then snows a little again but warm weather is within the next forecast. A snow sculpture doesn’t have a chance!

Winter is for the Birds

Sometimes it takes a day like a week ago last Monday with a raging blizzard to remind us how important it can be to feed the birds. I do this year round, just to draw them close to the house because my wife and I like to watch them. We always have a good variety of birds around. But last Monday, when it was snowing so hard I couldn’t see to the bottom of my hill, our back yard was alive with hundreds of birds. The woodlot behind our house offers protection from the wind and the birds didn’t mind a little snow.
