What is it?

The purpose of the Market Lamb Challenge program is to provide a one year educational, interesting and competitive feature for 4-H'ers at the Seward County Fair. Youth will have the opportunity to purchase a quality Market Lamb at market value while learning about sheep selection and evaluation. 

  • Youth will develop a partnership with a business sponsor and communicate with each other about the lamb challenge project and providing information about the youth's interests and background.
  • Youth will communicate their knowledge through a showmanship class
  • Youth will develop record keeping skills in decumenting accurate records on feed vet and toher management costs.
Program Requirements-
  • Application: Youth interested in partcipating must submit a completed application by March 18. The top 12 applicants will be selected based on their completed applications.
  • Deposit: When submitting the application, each applicatnt must submit a $50.00 deposit. If a youth is not selected for the program the deposit will be refunded.
  • Sponsor letters: each participating youth will send three letters to their lamb sponsor throughout the summer months.
  • Showmanship: youth will earn a score based on their placing in an additional LC Showmanship class.
  • Live Placing: In addiition to the regular market lamb show, lamb challenge lambs will show ina separate market lamb class at the county. Youth will earn points based on their placing in this class.
