Excited to announce that the 2024 Special Agronomy Project will be sugar beets!

 

We are still finalizing the Special Agronomy newsletter and other supporting pieces of information for the project. To get this in your January newsletter, below is the information for youth. The website and county order form will be updated by the end of the week. Look for another email to follow with all the information.

On January 14, Nebraska Governor Pillen declared a state of emergency in response to this winter storm. We've been monitoring needs and this response during briefings from the State Emergency Operations Center. 

 

Attached to this email is the most recent press release (January 14) from Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and Nebraska Department of Agriculture's social media graphic sharing the 1-800-831-0550 number for producers to call if they need assistance. People and communities can also reach out to their local emergency managers. Please share this phone number and graphic with your networks and on social media. I also listed a few resources below that may be helpful. 

 

Calculating Annual Cow Costs Webinar Series to be held in late January and February

Nebrasaka Extension will be hosting a wbinar series on Monday and Thursday eveneings in late January 29, February 1,5,8,12 & 15  7:30 - 8:30 p.m. CST Topice to be covered will includes: 

In 2024, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) will award additional IPAP grant funds in the approximate amount of $5.1 million to continue improving and expanding Nebraska's Meat Processing Capabilities.  The Money designated for this program comes from Americaan Rescue Plan Act funds.  NDA will begin accepting grant application on Jan 16, 2024.  The deadline to apply is February 16, 2024.  

From increaseing freezer capacity to adding meat grinders, slicers and smokehouse, Nebraksa livestock producers and meat processors used the last round of IPAP grant funds to strengthen and expand their operations.  Contact Christin Kamm 402.471.6856 to get more information about this funding opportunity.

Nebraska Extension will host a webinar on Monday and Thursday evenings in late January and February on the fundamentals of knowing and calculating annual cow costs.

 

Knowing annual cow costs is the foundation for evaluating and making management decisions that can improve profitability for a cow-calf enterprise. Significant increases in input costs challenge producers to examine the cost of production and identify where there may be opportunities to adjust the production system. Calculating costs and breaking them into categories gives an understanding of where there may be an opportunity to make changes.

Summer course for Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep offered in Scottsbluff
