The traditional 4-H Program in Wayne County is open to all youth 8-18 years of age and our Clover Kid Program* is for youth ages 5-7. Ages for the 2025 year are based on the 4-Her's age as of December 31, 2024. The main focus of the 4-H Program is learning by doing. A variety of projects for all interests are offered through 4-H. The 4-H year begins in October and runs through September.

There is a $5.00/youth fee which includes 4-H Accident Insurance. Volunteers may purchase insurance ($2/volunteer) if they choose, but it is not required. This insurance will cover members/volunteers while participating in or attending regularly approved and adult supervised group 4-H activities. Youth fees will be paid online during the enrollment process. For those that do not wish to pay online, payment may be brought to the Extension Office. The enrollment will be accepted once we receive the fee. Volunteers will bring payment to the Extension Office.

Various projects have costs as well, depending on the project you choose.

*The purpose of the Clover Kid Program is to promote the positive development of youth to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens. The learning experience is the primary reason for involvement in the program. Youth will learn about 4-H, participate in activities, and make items they can bring to the Wayne County Fair. All exhibits receive participation ribbons. Clover Kids meet once a month in December, February, March, April, May, and June.

Enrollment instructions: Online priority enrollment is due on or before February 3, 2025, however enrollment is accepted throughout the year. Youth must be enrolled by June 15 in order to participate in the county and state fairs. Everyone (includes traditional 4-Hers, Clover Kids, Organizational Leaders, and Project Leaders) will complete an on-line enrollment. No paper copies will be submitted. The Extension Office can assist you in completing the enrollment process if needed. Please contact the office if you have questions.

Please refer to the  instructions below and the 4-H Project List | Lista de proyectos 4-H before enrolling. 4-Hers and Clover Kids will pay their fees online. For those that do not wish to pay online, payment may be made at the Extension Office. Enrollment will be accepted once we receive the fee. Volunteers that choose to purchase insurance will need to give their payment to their Organizational Leader or bring it to the Extension Office.

4-H Volunteer / Staff Screening and Orientation
Nebraska Extension asks all volunteers to be screened for child abuse and neglect. Volunteers are screened in order to ensure a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for all youth involved with Nebraska 4-H programs and provide protection for the child, volunteer, educator, 4-H Council, Extension Board, and Nebraska Extension. All 4-H volunteers serving in a direct role (club leader, project leader, workshop leader, etc.) will screen every five years based on their anniversary date. With this change, ALL volunteers serving in a direct role will screen during the 2024-2025 program year, regardless of when their last screening was completed. When enrolling in 4-HOnline, volunteers will be redirected to the new screening vender, Sterling Volunteers. The new screening is a criminal background history check and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. The cost of the screening is $17 and is paid online during the screening process. Volunteers must successfully pass their screening to serve in a 4-H role. If you have completed a background check with another organization, it may fulfill the screening requirement. The screening level must be the same or exceed the level required by Nebraska 4-H. Contact the Extension Office if you feel this applies to you. All returning volunteers need to re-screen by March 15, 2025. These changes were made to ensure all youth and volunteers are protected through an increased volunteer screening level and to provide an enhanced user experience.

Follow all instructions in 4-HOnline to complete the process.

Volunteer Orientation-Nebraska 4-H is implementing a new 4-H Volunteer Orientation, which is part of the volunteer screening process. Direct volunteers are required to complete 4-H Volunteer Orientation during enrollment unless it was completed in 2024. The volunteer orientation link is located with the direct volunteer screening information in 4honline or found at https://4h.unl.edu/volunteer-orientation. The volunteer orientation will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Users are not required to complete the orientation in one session. The volunteer and the county office will receive an email upon completion.
