FONNER FIELD DAY - Fonner Park, Grand Island, NE - Sunday, April 14, 2024
JOIN THE UNL RACE NEBRASKA ENDEAVOR FOR A DAY OF FUN, EXPLORATION AND EDUCATION INTO WHAT ENCOMPASSES A DAY OF THOROUGHBRED RACING AT FONNER PARK
In the private Gus Fonner Suite at Fonner Park, the day will begin with an afternoon buffet starting at Noon. This room is equipped with many television monitors, a mutuel teller, a bartender, and a deck balcony for a fantastic vantage position to observe horseracing that will begin at 1:30pm.
Plan on using the suite as your home base for the afternoon. There you can sign up several tours which will occur throughout the afternoon. Some of the tours will include a glimpse into the jockeys’ quarters, a trip to the starting gate, a look into the parimutuel tote operations, a venture to the roof to watch a race with the stewards to observe the process of declaring a race official, plus more behind-the-scenes insightful experiences to help you understand the gravely important Thoroughbred horseracing industry in Nebraska. When you are not touring you may sit in comfort and enjoy a visit with industry professionals and stakeholders.
As a special treat, Fred Ecoffey, and Nebraska thoroughbred racing Hall of Fame jockey will be a part of the experience and available in the suite for nostalgic conversations. He is a Nebraska treasure and a legendary Lakota Sioux horseman. Fred is 86 years-of-age and is an active racing official at Fonner Park, serving as a paddock judge and an assistant clocker.
Register using this (https://cvent.me/xBvLqg) by April 8th at Midnight. Pre-registration cost is $35, or you can pay $40 cash /check at the door.
