- [0:01] Hello. This is Debra Walnofer,
- [0:03] 4-H Assistant for Holt and Boyd Counties
- [0:06] with your Extension 4-H Update.
- [0:09] It’s March, which means it is
- [0:11] March Madness, March Madness in 4-H!
- [0:15] Just kidding but March IS the time to enroll in 4-H!
- [0:19] Summer may seem like a long way away but it’s NOT!

- [0:28] of upcoming events, deadlines, and activities!
- [0:31] 4-H empowers young people to be true leaders.
- [0:35] True leaders are young people
- [0:37] who have confidence; know how to work well with others;
- [0:41] can endure through challenges; and will stick to a job until it gets done.
- [0:47] In 4-H, we believe true leaders aren't born–they are grown.
- [0:52] The 4-H experience is proven to grow true leaders with life skills
- [0:58] like confidence, independence, resilience, and compassion.
- [1:04] 4-H believes in the power of young people.
- [1:07] We see that every child has valuable strengths
- [1:10] and real influences to improve the world around us.
- [1:14] We are America's largest youth development organization
- [1:18] – empowering nearly six million young people across the U.S.
- [1:23] and 140,000 across the state of Nebraska with the skills to lead for a lifetime.
- [1:31] 4-H is delivered by Cooperative Extension
- [1:35] – a community of more than 100 public universities across
- [1:39] the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing.
- [1:45] Youth complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture, and
- [1:52] citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from
- [1:57] adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles.
- [2:03] The Nebraska 4-H mission is to empower youth to reach their
- [2:07] full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
- [2:12] We envision a world in which youth and adults learn, grow,
- [2:16] and work together as catalysts for positive change.
- [2:22] The phrase "Learn by Doing" sums up the educational philosophy of the 4-H program.
- [2:30] Young people learn best when they are involved in their learning.
- [2:35] The 4-H motto, "To Make the Best Better"
- [2:38] is intended to inspire young people to learn and grow, to make their best
- [2:43] efforts better through participating in educational experiences.
