If you are interested in the 4-H program in Holt and Boyd County, contact our office to let us know how we can help you.
We will help both youth who want to join 4-H and adults who are interested in volunteering!

The 4-H motto is “to make the best better”. The 4-H slogan is “learn by doing”.

Mission of 4-H

4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.

The phrase “Learning by Doing” sums up the educational philosophy of the 4-H program. Young people learn best when they are involved in their learning.

Why is it called “4-H”?

The 4-H emblem is a four-leaf clover with an “H” on each leaf. The four “H”s seen on the clover stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health:

•       Head:   4-H teaches your child how to use critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
•       Heart:   4-H will help your child learn respect for you, other, and the environment, as well as positive interpersonal communication skills.
•       Hands:  Through 4-H, your child will gain hands-on experience in career preparation and service to others.
•       Health:  4-H will give your child the ability to make healthy lifestyle choices and to manage change and challenges.

 Who can join?

•       4-H provides age-appropriate opportunities for youth ages 5 to 18. Projects and activities fit the interests of both urban and rural youth, boys and girls.

•       Regular and competitive memberships are available for youth ages 8 to 18 as of January 1 of the current year.
        These youth can participate in everything, including age-restricted projects such as shooting sports and horse.
•       Cloverbud 4-H members are youth ages 5 to 7 as of January 1 of the current year.
•       Volunteers/4-H Leaders can be anyone willing to share his or her skills, talents, and expertise as a leader! We always need short-term volunteers for workshops or other activities. Background clearance is required.

Where and How to Enrollment in 4-H -

• STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to Enroll/re-enroll each year by April 1 by using the online 4-H enrollment program 

  to receive communication from the Extension Office on upcoming activities, events, deadlines, county fair, etc. for the year.

Join a 4-H Club - 

• Holt County 4-H Clubs 
• Boyd County 4-H Clubs
• For Independent 4-H Members - When you are enrolling on v2.4honline.com as an Independent 4-H member on the clubs tab you still need to choose either Holt County Independent Member or Boyd County Independent Member before you can enroll in any projects.

• 4-H Projects - Scroll down to red border.  Click on the down arrow next to the curriculum areas that you are interested in. You can click on the various project that are linked in the dropdowns.  Those links will take you to an description and the manual that would be the resource for that project.

Clover Kid Project Information -

Projects provide the basis of the 4-H program by offering various educational experiences. Carrying out a project will help the member "learn by doing" as well as learn "why" things happen the way they do.

• Clover Kid Project List (*211.0 kb pdf file - 1 page)
  • Unlimited number of Static (non-animal) Projects - Unlimited Static (non-animal) Fair Exhibits
  • 2 Animal projects - 2 Animal entries only under those projects at the County Fair

Manual Order Forms for 4-H Clover Kids - 

• Holt/Boyd Clover Kid and 4-H Member Manual Order Form - go.unl.edu/manualorder
  
  • Choose Clover Kid as your membership type
  • Only Clover Kid projects will be available for you to chose from
  • If project not listed; there is no manual available
  • Holt County - 4-H'er receive 2 manuals free of charge - Additional manual will cost $5.00 each.  
  • Boyd County - You or your club will be billed for the cost of all publications. 
  • You will recieve an email with your completed.

Holt County Dues - 

• Holt County 4-H Enrollment Dues
• Payable to Holt County 4-H Council by April 1

• Council dues are $10.00 per 4-H member (age 8-18) and $5.00 per Clover Kid member (age 5-7).

• These dues are used in Holt County for member insurance, materials, record books, publications, and to support county 4-H activities.
