General Functions:
This position is responsible for supporting the functions of the Gage County Extension Office, including administrative and programming tasks primarily focused on 4-H Youth Development.
This is a temporary, part-time summer internship designed to provide hands-on experience in youth programming, event planning, and community outreach. Interns will assist with a variety of Extension programs, with a strong emphasis on summer programming and local events.
Work involves assisting with 4-H programming, supporting staff with day-to-day operations, and contributing to the success of youth events and activities. Interns should expect a dynamic work environment with a variety of experiences both in the office and in the community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist staff in delivering high-quality youth programming and events
- Support Extension staff with administrative tasks such as mailings, data entry, and program preparation
- Help maintain a welcoming and organized office environment
- Participate in staff meetings and planning sessions as needed
- Use technology and software (e.g., Word, Excel, Canva) to support program delivery and communication
- Assist with youth programs such as camps, workshops, contests, and outreach activities
- Provide general support during busy periods with an “all-hands-on-deck” approach
- Represent Extension and 4-H in a positive and professional manner
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with youth, families, and community members
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new tools
- A background in 4-H or youth development is preferred but not required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must be at least 16 years of age (18 preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
- Currently in high school or enrolled in college
- Interest in youth development, education, or community programming
Working Conditions & Schedule Expectations:
- This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours per week
- Typical schedule will occur during weekday hours, with occasional evenings or weekends depending on programming needs
- Position runs approximately May through August (flexible based on availability).
- Applicant will need to work hours during the Gage County Fair.
- Some work will take place outdoors and may include exposure to heat, humidity, and interaction with animals
- This position is not eligible for remote work.
