MUST BE CHECKED IN WITH SUPERINTENDENT during the designated time on fair schedule, not just being present on the fairgrounds.  Those not checked in will not be able to show. 

POULTRY SHOW RULES - Exhibitor must also enter the showmanship contest.

  1. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS Health certificate not required for poultry. No additional testing requirements for Nebraska origin poultry. To be eligible for exhibition, cockerel, pullet, cock of hen chicken entries must be fair representatives of one of the breeds listed in the American Standard of Perfection or the American Bantam Association Standard of Perfection
  2. The minimum weights for light breeds such as Leghorns is 3 pounds for pullets and 4 pounds for cockerels; 4 pounds for pullets and 5 pounds for cockerels in the heavy breeds.
  3. A trio of exhibition birds will consist of one male and two females of the same species. 
  4. A pen of broilers shall consist of three male or female 69 weeks of age. 
  5. Egg production trio shall consist of 3 sexually mature females. Egg production females will be judged for production qualities only and need not necessarily conform to breed standards.
  6. Birds entered in trios or pens are ineligible to be judged in individual competition.
  7. The rules for standard size chickens applies equally to bantams, waterfowl and turkeys where applicable.
  8. All poultry exhibits must be grown in a 4H member's project. A 4-H member is limited to exhibiting 8 entries plus showmanship (a pen of broilers or egg production birds is considered one entry). 
  9. Poultry exhibitors must be present and ready to show the animals for the judges on judging day according to the fair schedule.

HEALTH REGULATIONS:

The Nebraska Poultry Disease Act requires that poultry entering exhibitions be Pullorum Typhoid Clean. Proof of compliance with this act must be presented to the Superintendent of Poultry Exhibits when the birds are entered in the show. Proof of testing or purchase receipt from a MPIP supplier within the past year is proof of compliance.

  • Cockerel: young male (under 1 year old)
  • Cock: male chicken (over 1 year old)
  • Pullet:  young female (under 1 year old)
  • Hen: female chicken (over 1 year old)

  • American (Plymouth Rock, Jersey Giant, Wyandotte, New Hampshire Red, Rhode Island Red)
  • Asiatic (Cochin, Brahams, Langshan)
  • English (Cornish, Orpington, Australorps, Sussex, Dorkings)
  • Mediterranean (Leghorn, Buttercup, Minorca)
  • Continental (Polish, Hamburg, Campines, Faverolles, Houdan)
  • All other Breeds (Naked Neck, Game, Sumatra, Araucanas, Ameracanas)

BANTAM

  • Game Bantam (Modern and Old English)
  • Single Comb Clean Legged (Plymouth Rock, Leghorn, Japanese, Rhode Island Red, Orpingtons, New Hampshire)
  • Rose Comb Clean Legged (Rosecomb, Wyandotte, Sebright, Leghorn, Belgian Bearded D’Anver)
  • All other Comb Clean Legged (Polish, Cornish, Houdan, Sumatra)
  • Feather Legged (Silkie, Cochin, Brahma, Belgian Bearded D’Uccle, Langshan)
