G: Livestock - Goat

MUST BE CHECKED IN WITH SUPERINTENDENT during the designated time on fair schedule, not just being present on the fairgrounds.  Those not checked in will not be able to show.

Exhibitor must also enter the showmanship contest.  All registered and commercial goats (wethers or does must be tagged with a USDA official scrapie ID by June 15th.)   Separate breed classes may be designated if three or more of one breed during the show. A 4-H member may exhibit not more than six total goats. Does must be milked out at 7:00 PM of the day prior to showing. Verify with Superintendent. NO BILLY GOATS will be allowed to show.

MEAT GOATS CLASS

All meat class goats will need to be ear tagged (see general livestock rules). 

Rules for Meat Class:

  1. Market meat goat classes are open to wether or does up to 8 months.
  2. Market goats may not return the following year (scarpies tags will be checked).
  3. Goats must have horns blunted, dehorning is preferred. 
  4. All percentage will be shown in same class.
  5. For market goat minimum weight is 50 pounds but a maximum weight of 130 pounds. Goats weighing less than 50 pounds will be in the pre-market class.
  6. Exhibitors are required to use collars or collars with a short lead when showing.
  7. Clipping is recommended according to state rules but not mandatory. 4H and FFA will be judged together.

Each exhibitor is limited to two entries consisting of does or wethers.  Judging will be based on the following: 1) Breed Characteristics; 2) Cleanliness of animal; 3) Development; and 4) Compatibility
