“Ranching for Profitability” Meeting to be held as webinar across Nebraska

Efficiency and sustainability are important topics to beef consumers and the future success of the beef industry. These topics are also the theme of Nebraska Extension’s Ranching for Profitability session in 2019.

In January, Ranching for Profitability will be offered as a webinar that beef producers can join from any of 13 downlink locations across Nebraska, or from their home via the internet. A list of sites and registration information follows.

Unit Cost of Production has been rescheduled.  New Date scheduled in January.

Do you manage your ranch as a business? Do you have the information you need to do so?

Two-day workshop will be held in Rushville, January 10th and 11th 8:30-4:00 MST.     It will provide a hands-on learning experience for producers to learn how to calculate a unit cost of production for a cow-calf operation.

Enterprise analysis and unit cost of production are tools that can help ranchers identify where value is being created on the ranch, where costs are occurring and what changes could be made to improve profit.

We are already working hard on our annual Luck of the Draw fundraiser.  Please mark January 3 on your calendars – this is the day that 4-H members will be going around Valentine to collect donations at 1:00 pm.  We need as many youth as possible, as well as several drivers.

Youth new to computer coding (elementary and early middle school age) are welcome to participate in three more Code Your World classes that will be offered from 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm on December 4, 11, and 18 at the Cherry County Extension Office.  Class size will be limited.  Please pre-register by the day before each session by contacting 402-376-1850 or mgarwood3@unl.edu.  (You did not have to participate in the original Code Your World class on National Youth Science Day to be eligible to participate in these classes and you do not need to be enrolled in 4-H to participate.)
