Parents and leaders may assist carrying in articles for display to the registration table. 4 Hers are to set up display themselves in the contest area. Each contestant will be interviewed by the judge for about five minutes. Questions will cover food preparation, menu planning, nutrition, meal management, table setting and favorite food.

Public Speaking

Youth have an opprotunity to write a speech or public service announcement (PSA) that  incorporates the topic of 4-H and deliver it to an audience

Presentation Contest

Remember "Show & Tell" from Eementary School?  Well, 4-H Presentations are similar.  The 4-H'er show and tells thow to make or do something.

Bicycle Rodeo

All Burt County 4-H members (including Clover Kids) are encouraged to join in. Bicycle helmets are encouraged, but not mandatory…yet! Remember sportsmanship counts!

The Bicycle Rodeo has 4 riding events and a safety quiz.

  1. The safety quiz questions are read out loud and further explanations are given if needed to help everyone as we want this to be fun – not stressful at all for any of our contestants.
  2. The riding events include control and balance courses where the 4-H member rides between two rows of small wooden blocks approximately 7-8” apart for a distance of approximately 25 feet. The first time they ride through as quickly as they can without hitting the blocks or going outside of them (losing points if they do) and the second time they ride as slowly as they can between the rows – again without hitting or going outside of them. Very few have a “perfect ride”.
  3. The Figure 8 challenge and the riders go from the starting line to ride a series of 3 figure 8’s and then finish by going across the finish line. This is a tough one for most participants as they can get confused on how to ride it correctly if they don’t practice. Think of it like this: I-8-8-8-I They ride from the middle of the starting line to go either left or right to start the first figure 8, then on to the second and third figure 8’s and then race across the finish line.
  4. The slalom, which again is a speed event as they zig-zag between cones from start to finish. Spectators are welcome but bring your own lawn chair & sunscreen!

Tractor Driving

The contest is designed for all 4-H members 8-18 with varying levels of tractor sizes and driving courses.

  1. There is a safety quiz,
  2. Practicum test (what’s wrong with or what should you check before driving this tractor)
  3. The driving skills course
    1. Junior Driving Test
    2. Intermediate Driving Test
    3. Senior Driving Test

Rocket Launch

Do you have a rocket that you’ve built for the fair? Come get one of the those required launches checked off at our Rocket Launch Contest.

You’ll be judged on how well it launches and how well you know the proper steps to launch it by yourself! It’s a great time to get a tan and share with other 4-Her’s what you’ve learned this year in building your rocket.
