2017 Market Beef Identification Requirements

It is about that time of year again when we need to get organized for the new 4-H season.  With that comes the requirements for identifying your animals.  Please read through this information carefully and if you have any questions, please contact the Extension office.

Market Beef

  1. As per the state change in 2016, you are no long required to attend a market beef weigh day to be eligible to show. HOWEVER, if you are wanting to be a part of the County Fair Rate of Gain contest, you are required to weigh your market beef animals on Saturday, January 28th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the Masonic Home.
  2. If you want your animals weighed in at weigh day, but you have a conflict, please send your animals with someone else.  You are not required to be present that day… only your critters.  If DNA is being pulled, you will need to sign a waiver.
  3. We will be using eID tags again this year.  Both 4-H and FFA will be using the same tags and animals should be identified on the same ID sheet.
  4. If you do not attend weigh day, you have until April 14th to identify your market beef for eligibility to exhibit in 2017.
  5. Tags will be $2 / tag, however, the 4-H Council voted to cover the cost of the tags up to 10 head.  Anything over ten animals, the 4-H member will be responsible to pay for those tags. (There is a 10 animal limit per exhibitor on market beef)
  6. DNA is required for any market beef animal that is being exhibited at the Nebraska State Fair or AKSARBEN Stock Show.  There is a $6 fee per animal for DNA.  If you are pulling your own DNA, you will need to get envelops from the extension office prior to pulling the hair.
  7. Both a parent and the exhibitor are required to sign the DNA envelop.  If you are not available to sign, waiver forms may be obtained from the extension office.
