Rabbit Showmanship Contest Rules

1. Breeds must conform to the Standards and weights set by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, to be eligible to exhibit as a breeding class rabbit. Rabbits will be shown by breed.  If there are five or more of a breed, a best of breed rosette will be given.  All rabbits must be a part of the 4-H/FFA member’s project. 

2. ALL RABBITS EXCEPT FRYERS MUST HAVE PERMANENT ID NUMBERS OR NAMES TATTOOED IN THEIR EAR WITH AN APPROPRIATE TOOL.  (Permanent marker numbers written in the ears of rabbits are NOT permanent ID numbers.  ID numbers or names along with class information must be supplied to Superintendent at time of entry.

3. Rabbit and Poultry exhibitors must turn in Pre-Entry forms to the Extension Office by July 15th Exhibitors of both Rabbits and Poultry will be allowed to enter up to 12 birds and/or rabbits per exhibitor for the pre-entries, then will ONLY BE ALLOWED TO SHOW 6 birds and/or rabbits during fair week. Market Pens - Market Pens of 3 rabbits will be considered as one rabbit entry.

4. Dress Code - Exhibitor must wear the 4-H Council approved t-shirt and blue jeans.  FFA members will be required to wear advisor approved dress code. 

5. Health - If rabbits show symptoms/signs of having a health problem that is a threat to other animals or humans, the superintendent reserves the right to ask the exhibitor to remove the animal from the fairgrounds. 

6. Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA)—Nebraska 4-H requires all youth enrolled in livestock projects to complete annual quality assurance training through Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). (See Small Animal Handbook for more information).

8. Rabbit Showmanship - All exhibitors are encouraged to enter rabbit showmanship.
