  • Beef Weigh-in

January 31st - Auburn Vet Clinic

Weigh-in starts at 9:00 AM and runs to 11:00 AM

 

  • News to Note

New Age Division for shooting sports. Age divisions will not be the same for all 4-H contests & shows. 

Junior: 8-10

Intermediate: 11-13

Senior: 14-18

**This does mean youth 11+ can participate in .22 and shotgun if they have taken the Hunter Safety course. 

 

  • Fruit Sales

4-H Fruit Sale revenue supports 4-H program materials, leader education, camps & clinics.

 

  • 4-H Project Discovery Kit - Register by Jan. 21st

Kit makes 3 inspirational bracelets. Kit includes most supplies. $5.00 per kit. 

Kits will be available for pickup after January 28th from your local extension office.

This is the last full week to sell fruit! Tuesday, February 17, 2026, is the end of our fruit sales. Thursday, February 19th, is the turn-in date for your fruit orders. The 4-H Fruit Delivery Day will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Add cards for online orders. Must bring payment for every paper order entered.* We have more forms in the office if you need to pick some up!*

As spring gently unfolds, it's time to begin our preparations for the upcoming 2026 Nemaha County Fair!

5 different contests:

Where: First United Methodist Church, 1700 Harlan St., Falls City, NE.

  • FIRST TIME SHOWING HORSES IN 4-H

Level Testing Requirements for 4-H Horse Shows must be completed by June 15th. Nebraska 4-H requires this for all youth showing horses in 4-H. There are 3 parts to this level testing. Member manuals with information are in the Extension office. Talk to Sheena for more information. 

 

  • YQCA & EARTAGS

If you are showing beef, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits, or poultry, you must complete the YQCA certification by June 15th. We have codes in the office to pay for it. Call or email for a code, then complete when it is convenient.

Eartags for beef & swine are available in the office. Pictures of tags in ears must be sent to Sheena by June 15th. 

 

  • LANDSCAPING ON FAIRGROUNDS

4-H clubs are assigned and responsible for watering and caring for (pulling weeds, etc.) the plants and the area by the west fairground entry. Thank you for helping to beautify the fairgrounds!!

  • Static Entries

We're hoping to have interview schedules and entry cards completed by 3:00 PM on Tuesday, August 4th. Cards can be picked up until Thursday at 5:00 PM; after that, you can get your cards when you come to static judging on the 7th.

We will email the schedules, so you know when to arrive. Bring all projects with you to the 4-H building on the 7th. 

Please arrive 10 minutes early.

Volunteers will help you know where to put items and will get you for your interviews. 

Youth must wear 4-H attire: long, blue denim jeans, gray 4-H shirt, and closed toes shoes. 

Make sure you check the fairbook for supporting documentation that goes with some projects.

 

  • Fairgrounds clean-up Wednesday, August 5th @ 6:00 PM

Please help set up the stalls and the 4-H building for the fair! Pizza and pop provided once everything is cleaned up.

  • Pictures during animal shows

All pictures will be taken at the end of the show in the ring. If you are a top winner, please plan on coming back in with your animals for pictures. 

 

  • Driving Contest

Driving contest - Saturday, August 15th at 9:00 AM. Practice will start at 9 AM; competition at 9:30 AM.

Please be there for practice, as you'll get a chance to use the equipment, and we will also go over the course. For the tractor driving portion, youth must wear the gray 4-H shirt, long blue denim jeans, and shoes that cover the entire foot. For the ATV portion, we will be using a UTV or side-by-side this year because it's what is available. Council kept the attire the same; however, for an ATV: Helmet, eye protection, long sleeves, jeans, gloves, and shoes with a small heel. 

Failure to wear proper attire will result in lowering one ribbon placement. Awards will be given out at the end of the contest.

 

  • Awards

Wednesday, August 12th at 3:00 PM, we will highlight many achievements from contests during fair time. Awards for Archery, BB Gun, Judging Contest, and Herdsmanship will be handed out, as well as top awards for static. Make sure youth dress in their 4-H attire for these pictures.

 

  • Premium Sale

At entry, we will be passing out premium sale forms. Youth with market animals can bring 2 through the premium sale. Forms must be completed and turned in by 5:00 PM on Tuesday. A folder will be labeled and placed in the fair office. No one will be able to participate if they do not fill out the form by 5:00 PM and no changes can be made after that time. The office will add swine awards.

  • State Fair Entries

All state fair projects need to be in the Extension office by Friday, August 21st, 5:00 PM. Horticulture & food projects need to come by Tuesday, August 25th at noon.

 

If you want to go to the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island and see your project(s), they will be on display at Fonner Park, in the big red shed on the northwest side of the park. Friday, August 28th - Monday, September 7th. There is a fee to enter the fair. Projects will be transported back to our office and will be ready for pickup on Wednesday, September 9th. State Fair ticket opportunities are included in the email. Usually, these need to be purchased in advance. Do not delay in getting tickets, or it might be too late.

  • Achievement Night

Sunday, October 25th

4:00-5:30 PM - Games & Food

5:30PM - Awards ceremony at the Auburn Christian Church - Family Life Center 1407 Courthouse Ave. 

Please join us for this evening of fun. You are welcome to come anytime starting at 4:00 PM. Food service will stop at 5:30 PM so get there in time to get your food before the program starts at 5:30PM.

We will have games in the gym starting at 4:00 PM: Free throw contest, Gaga ball, 9-square in the Air, corn hole, giant Jenga, parachute, and more!

  • Nebraska State Fair

We still have a few fair checks in the office. Please stop by and pick them up.

  • Bonus Bucks

2025 Achievement Application Bonus Bucks must be spent by October 31, 2026. Bonus Bucks can be used to pay for camps, workshops, 4-H t-shirts, and more. Contact the office to see if you still have Bonus Bucks and to figure out hot they can be used. 

  • National 4-H Week

October 4th-10th

Monday, October 5th you are encouraged to wear their 4-H shirt to school to represent 4-H!
