DEPARTMENT B - DIVISION 170 - 4-H FOOD REVUE

Division 170          Classes 901- 903       Pay Category C

FOOD REVUE CONTEST RULES:

  1. Open to any 4-H member, regardless of 4-H projects carried.
  2. Registration forms will be required. Watch the 4-H Newsletter for registration forms and deadlines.
  3. The exhibit will consist of the following:
  • The recipe of the food item on a 4” x 6” card. The recipe does not have to come from a 4-H manual.
  • A menu showing the use of the food item, 4” x 6” in size, on your choice of medium (index card, ceramic tile, chalkboard, etc.), to share with the judge. Use the correct form for writing the menu. Ask for EC 9-43-77 “Writing a Menu.”
  • One place setting.
  • A centerpiece.
  • The prepared food, comparable in skill difficulty to the age and experience of the exhibitor. The food should be different than shown in previous years. Food may be prepared at home and brought or can be prepared at the contest, if it will get done before your interview. NOTE ABOUT RAW EGGS– Raw eggs cannot be used in food exhibits like a frosting/glaze that is not cooked or baked. You can use powdered eggs or meringue powder in place of raw eggs. If the raw eggs are cooked or baked in a recipe, they can be used for exhibits in the Nemaha County Food Revue. After they are cooked/baked, they are no longer raw eggs. Please keep this in mind when preparing your food exhibits.
  • The 4-H member is to bring their own card table and set up their display on the date of the contest. He/she may want to choose to center their display around a special occasion, a holiday, a family outing, etc. and coordinate centerpiece, place settings (china, crystal, silver). Disposable place settings could also be used in a very creative way. The 4-H Food Revue will be judged by the interview method. 4-H members will not make a presentation in front of other participants. Rather, they will visit individally with the judge. 4-H members should be knowledgeable about their food product; its preparation, nutritional value, cost, etc.; as well as, their menu, table service, and planned occasion for serving. Participants should also dress appropriately for the contest.
  1. Following judging, a sampling of foods shown will be an option available to exhibitors and audience. Plates and plastic utensils will be provided.
  2. If desired, 4-H members may want to make additional copies of their recipe to share with the audience and other participants.

DEPARTMENT F - DIVISION 500 - TRACTOR OPERATORS CONTEST

Division 500                    Classes 940-942                       Pay Category C

The contest will be conducted according to the rules set forth in the Nebraska 4-H Tractor Operator’s Contest manual. Those in the Junior Division will drive a garden tractor. Pre-entry is required by June 15th. Use the Yellow Contest Entry Form to enter this contest.

You will also need to check-in for this contest half hour prior to contest start time. 4-H Attire is required for this contest.

DEPARTMENT F - DIVISION 500 - ATV CONTEST (ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES)

Division 500                            Classes 943-945                            Pay Category C

Pre-entry is required by June 15th. Use the Yellow Contest Entry Form to enter this contest. You will also need to check in for this contest half an hour prior to the contest start time. The 4-H Dress Code for the ATV Driving Contest is blue jeans and a LONG-sleeved shirt, protective eye wear (if not included in the helmet), gloves, a safety helmet, and shoes with a 1” heel.
