GENERAL SWINE SHOW RULES

A.   See General Rules on and General Livestock Rules and Regulations.
B.   NUMBER ENTRIES PER EXHIBITOR – Limit 6 entries per exhibitor. Can be any combination of market or breeding but not more than 4 market or 4 breeding, and no more than 6 entries total.
C.   IDENTIFICATION - Hogs must be ear tagged with the official 4-H swine ear tag to show at County Fair. 4-H/FFA members must document the official swine tag number on the 4-H Identification/Ownership Affidavit and submitted to the Extension Office by June 15th.
♦   State Fair eligible market swine and breeding gilts must be tagged with an official 840 USDA EID tag or producer EID tag, owned by the exhibitor and have the online nomination entry and DNA collector envelope with hair sample submitted to the County Extension Office by June 15. NOTE: The universal ear notch system with notches will not be an acceptable form of identification at the Nebraska State Fair.

D.   PRE-ENTRY - All swine exhibits, including showmanship, to be eligible to show at the Nemaha County Fair must be pre-entered on a GREEN Entry Sheet (available at the Extension Office or online) OR entered online at https://nemaha.fairwire.com. Entries are due by June 15th.
E.   HEALTH REQUIREMENTS - See GENERAL ANIMAL REQUIREMENTS.
F.   All animals, market and breeding, will be weighed at check-in.

G.  MARKET SWINE RULES

  1. See General Rules and General Livestock Rules and Regulations.
  2. WEIGHT ELIGIBILITY - All market swine, regardless of breed, will be classified for judging purposes on the basis of weight alone. Pigs less than 230 pounds will show in pre-market class. An upper weight limit has been set for 320 lbs. No reweighs will be allowed. All light and heavy hogs will be allowed to show but will not be eligible for purple ribbons or Champion Market Swine. (State Fair Weight Requirements are the same.)
  3. Market swine classes will be divided into 3 divisions by the Superintendent. Classes with less than 5 entries may be combined into groups of at least 5 head at the discretion of the superintendent.
  4. Nemaha County Fair Swine Show is a non-terminal show.
  5. Barrows and gilts will be shown together.
  6. BORN & RAISED CLASS - A class for market animals where the animals must have been born, raised, and fed with-in the operation of a youth’s immediate family (family, grandparent, sibling, uncle, or aunt) in Nemaha County or in the county which the youth lives. Champion & Reserve Champ Born & Raised will be awarded and be able to come back for Grand Market Champion. The animals must be ID’d by the deadline day for the Born & Raised class. Swine not making required market weight will not be eligible for purple ribbons or Champion Born and Raised Market Swine and will show in the pre-market or heavy market class no matter how they registered.

H.   BREEDING GILT RULES

  1. See General Rules and General Livestock Rules and Regulations.
  2. Minimum Age Requirements – All breeding gilts are required to be born on or after December 1, 2025
  3. Registration Papers – To be eligible to show in a purebred class a breeding animal must be owned by the exhibitor and be recorded on an Identification/Ownership Affidavit by June 15 of the current year. Ear notches listed on the registration papers will be verified. Any animal not meeting purebred requirements will be shown in the crossbred division. A copy of the official breed registration papers must be on file at the Extension Office by June 15.
  4. Classes may be divided at the discretion of superintendents.
