CAT SHOW RULES

A.    See General Rules and General Livestock Rules and Regulations.
B.    ENTRIES PER EXHIBITOR - Each exhibitor may enter no more than 4 cats in the show.
C.    IDENTIFICATION - Exhibitors must identify their cat with a photograph attached to an Identification form from the Extension Office due by June 15. In addition, Certification of Vaccination for Cats (SF262) must be signed by a veterinary and turned in by May 1 or animals will not be allowed to show.
D.    PRE-ENTRY - Cat entries, including showmanship, to be eligible to exhibit at the Cat Show, must be pre-entered on a Cat & Companion Animal Show Entry Sheet due at the Extension Office on June 15.
E.    HEALTH - All cats must be free of fleas, ticks, ear mites, ringworm, any internal and external parasites and infectious disease. If a cat shows the possibility of being contagious, it will be considered a danger to the other cats and will not be allowed to show. Cats that pose a danger to others will not be allowed to enter the building.

  1. Cats are required to be current on their vaccinations of Rabies, panleukopenia, viral rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. Cats must either have a current feline leukemia vaccination or proof of a negative test within 180 days of the show. Certification of Vaccination for Cats (SF262) must be signed by a veterinarian and turned in by June 15.
  2. If a cat is not declawed, the claws must be clipped. This will be a point of judging during the competition. No expectant or nursing mother cats may enter.

F.    SHOW PROCEDURE: Exhibitors must be present at the time of showing. Animals must be housed in a cage at all times of the show unless asked to remove them by the judge.

  1. Each exhibitor will be asked to give a short “showmanship” presentation on their animal. The characteristics, health, and care of the animal should be provided in this presentation. Following the presentation, exhibitors will be interviewed on knowledge of their animal and its care.
  2. The judge will evaluate the participant on the following basis:
  • animal health and wellbeing – 35 points,
  • cage evaluation (appropriateness of travel housing as well as description of everyday housing) – 25 points,
  • overall knowledge and presentation skills – 40 points.

  2. Participant should bring an animal, an adequate cage, and accessories.

G.    SHOWMANSHIP – Exhibitors will be judged on handling of the cat from cage to judge’s table, plus answers to questions as to breed, age, type and date of immunizations, sex, and general knowledge of the cat.
H.    CAGES & CARE - Cats will be brought to the show in a secure container, preferably a cat carrier with no more than 2 cats per container. Cats will not be allowed out of the container unless held by the exhibitor. The exhibitor should have on hand: food, water, litter, a comfortable cage bottom and a cage covering (2-3 bath towels or a sheet will suffice.) The cage covering should not be made of see-through material. The cat judge WILL NOT judge on the elaborate materials used to furnish the cage, the criteria for judging will be based on cat comfort and efficient use of the space provided. Cages will be judged for the availability of food, water and litter as well as cage comfort, covering cat on.
I.    AGE OF ANIMAL - Cats must be a minimum age of 4 months old.
