General Information

  • To be eligible, a club must have at least three exhibitors.
  • Herdsmanship will be judged twice a day during the Fair at approx. 9 am and 6 pm.
  • Clubs may be assigned times to assist with herdsmanship judging. The Herdsmanship Superintendent will oversee judging and has final authority on all scores.
  • Bonus points may be awarded for teamwork, sportsmanship, decorations and care of shared areas.

Herdsmanship will be judged on the following: 

1) Animals clean at all times with grooming apparent. 

2) Animals adequately cared for with proper feeding, clean bedding, adequate equipment and proper disposal of manure. 

3) Beef animals securely tied with 18 - 20" of lead. 

4) Stalls and pens cleaned before 8 am. 

5) Trappings and feed area clean and neatly arranged. 

6) Grooming/fitting areas kept clean. 

7) Equipment stored in a safe and orderly manner.

8) Proper courtesy, conduct and good sportsmanship must be shown at all times.

9) Exhibitors are expected to complete herdsmanship duties themselves.

10) Exhibitors are responsible for keeping their stall area, alley space and shared middle aisles clean throughout the day.

11) Dust control is encouraged by sprinkling wood chips with water when needed.
