Voices For Food

In 2024 Voices for Food coordinated food security projects which increased general access to food and increased fresh food consumption for families. Projects facilitated by this council include:  the Dakota City Food Pantry, two grant funded gardens, a community produce collection program, nine raised beds at Siouxland Community Health, newly Installed a Little Free Pantry and Little Free Library, as well as another raised bed at Heartland Counseling, and implemented a meal kit program for high school students at Gateway to Learning.

In ten years Voices For Food has collected 127,467 pounds of produce that have been distributed into the food system.

Cooperative Learning Garden

Over 12,000 pounds of produce from the Cooperative Learning Garden and rural gardens were distributed to four food pantries and human service agencies providing fresh produce for 6,443 individuals. *

Siouxland Community Health

A joint collaboration with the community health center to create a community collection hub, distributed 6,383 pounds of community collections and Health Center grown produce to medical clients. 

 

Raised Bed

Dakota City Food Pantry

This pantry was started 2016 and is facilitated by the Voices for Food project.  In 2024, 963 households picked up food for 3,634 individuals of which 1,545 were children
