Welcome to Cedar County 4-H!
4-H is a positive youth development and mentoring program for young people, ages 8-18 as of January 1st of the current program year, who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. 4-H is education for life that creates opportunities to learn-by-doing, grow from failure, express ideas, and use their influence to drive positive outcomes. That's why hands-on projects are an integral part of the 4-H experience. There are over 150 project areas for youth to explore life skills and career possibilities.
The 4-H Clover Kid program is designed specifically for youth ages 5 to 7 as of January 1st of the current program year. The program offers a variety of educational and recreational experiences in non-competitive environments. These opportunities are ideal for developing confidence, creativity, and knowledge during this stage of youth development.
Your family’s 4-H experiences can be tailor-made to fit your goals, schedule, and interests. We encourage you to be involved as a whole family; learning, and growing together.

Every summer 4-H youth participate in the Cedar County Fair to showcase their knowledge and skills they have gained throughout the year. Their 4-H projects reflect the evolving interests of youth in the world today, from working with animals, gardening, woodworking, sewing, and cooking to photography, robotics, GPS, and computers. 4-H youth spend months working on projects designed to equip them with essential life skills such as problem solving, decision making, project management, communications and public speaking. 4-Hers then share their accomplishments and educate the public about their project at the Cedar County Fair. The 4-H projects are evaluated by judges skilled in the project areas and given feedback, encouragement, tips and advice to help them improve their skills. 4-Hers who demonstrate the highest achievements are then selected to showcase their exhibits at the Nebraska State Fair!
The Cedar County Fair not only makes great memories, it helps 4-H youth grow into successful adults!
History of Nebraska 4-H
4-H began in the early 1900's as Corn Clubs for boys and Canning Clubs for girls. Although the program has changed a lot through the years, it has always been a program designed to help children become productive members of their communities.
4-H is a national organization delivered by Cooperative Extension–a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. Youth complete hands-on projects in areas like health, science, agriculture and citizenship, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids experience 4-H in every county and parish in the country.
Nebraska 4-H prepares young people for successful futures. Educational programs place a strong emphasis on life skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, social skills, communication, responsibility, citizenship, and leadership.
