A live presentation given by one (1) individual or a team of two (2) individuals, with a formal talk where youth will use visual aids (such as props, posters, computer-based visuals, handouts, video, etc.) to show and tell others how to do something. Judge views the entire presentation and engages in a question-and-answer session following presentation.
- Individuals or Teams (two members) may compete. There is no separate class for teams, just different time limits. Participants may be penalized if their presentation exceeds the time limit.
Age Divisions:
Clover Kids – age 5-7 Junior – age 8-10 Intermediate – age 11-13 Senior – age 14-18
If team members are not in the same age division, they must compete in the age division of the oldest team member. Clover Kids may not team with 4-H aged youth.
Time limit: Junior Division – 3-5 minutes for an individual 5-7 minutes for a team
Intermediate & Senior Divisions – 6-8 minutes for an individual 8-10 minutes for a team
- All 4-H Presentations topics should be related to what the 4-H youth is learning through 4-H educational experiences. Educational resources for youth participating in the 4-H Presentations Contest can be found at https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/cedar/4-h-contests/.
- 4-H Presentations should include an introduction (the “why” portion of the topic), a body (the “show and tell” portion of the topic), and a conclusion/summary (the “what” portion of the topic).
- 4-H members need not be enrolled in the project area in which they are presenting.
- Dress appropriately and be enthusiastic.
- Live animals may not be used in the presentation. Alternative ways of showing information about live animals (models, videos, photos, etc.) are encouraged.
- Equipment provided includes two (2) tables, one (1) easel, PC compatible computer (including Microsoft PowerPoint) with a WiFi internet connection, and television screen. You may also provide your own computer or equipment as needed.

The top five Junior, Intermediate & Senior participants receiving a purple ribbon in the Cedar County 4-H Presentations Contest are eligible to represent Cedar County at the State Premier Communication Event on June 16-17, 2026 in Lincoln.
