Calves should be at least 60 days old at fair time. This project is suggested for youths 5-10 years of age. During the class, exhibitors may be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • What the exhibitor learned about caring for and raising the calf.
  • Fitting and showing according to either beef or dairy guidelines, with emphasis on how much the exhibitor learned and can do without help. However, parental guidance is encouraged.
  • The general health of the calf and knowledge of the exhibitor in health-related areas.
  • Dairy or beef quality of calf should not be considered since purchase is not made on that basis.
