Private Pesticide Certification Training

 Private pesticide trainings will be held for farmers and ranchers who need to renew their certified private pesticide applicator’s license or anyone who wants to become certified.  Contact the Extension Office for the 2025 Custer County dates.  Pre-registration is required and seating is limited.  A fee of $60.00 will be collected for the course.  Checks should be made payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Correct change is appreciated.  The course will last approximately 3 hours, you are required to be present for the entire training session.

After completion of the course your information will be sent to the State of Nebraska for the license information.  A postcard will be mailed to you from State of Nebraska asking you to remit $25.00 for the licensing fee to complete the certification.  Once that is received by the State you will be sent your certification card which expires in 3 years.

Custer County Chemigation Training will be held on Wednesday, February 19, in Broken Bow at the 4-H Building.  Session will be at 1:00 p.m.  Pre-registration is required. Nebraska Extension Hosting a Winter stocker tour in January

UNL Winter Stocker Tour, featuring Darr Feedlot

After hearing a desire for a winter stocker tour for gaining insight on cost-effective options to background calves through the winter, Nebraska Extension is holding a Winter Stocker Tour on January 29 near Lexington.

Registration is asked to be completed by January 24 at a cost of $20 per person by visiting https://go.unl.edu/winterstockertour or contacting the Buffalo County Extension Office at 308-236-1235.

Registration on the day of the tour will begin at 9:30 AM at the District 22 Event Center in Lexington, with the program starting shortly after at 10 AM.

UNL Beef Specialist Dr. Mary Drewnoski will discuss program feeding distillers grains on cornstalks. Two producer panels throughout the morning will focus on receiving cattle management protocols for healthy calves and business fundamentals for beginning producers. Dr. Jim MacDonald, UNL Professor in Animal Science, will discuss implant strategies for calves. Following lunch, the group will tour Darr Feedlot to learn more about their feeding operations, pen management, and working facilities.

The Custer County 4-H Building can be rented for a day or for multiple days if needed.
