Each exhibitor is allowed to exhibit 2 market beef that have been properly identified. Divisions will include Market Heifers and Market Steers (two or more divisions, depending on the number of entries). There will be classes in the divisions (if warranted) by weight or hip height. All market beef tagged and weighed at an official Central IV weigh-in are eligible for RATE OF GAIN contest. Bucket calves may return as second year bucket calf. Feeder calves shown at the previous year’s fair are eligible to return as a grown and shown steer, grown and shown heifer or a breeding heifer. Male bucket calves or the male calf in a cow-calf pair may be intact. Each exhibitor is allowed to exhibit 2 senior breeding heifers and 2 junior breeding heifers. Each exhibitor is allowed to exhibit 2 feeder calves born after January 1 of the current year. Calves must be properly identified. Calves will be classed by sex and by height or weight if necessary. Feeder calves should be halter-broke and must be shown by exhibitor.
Bucket calf project is for 4-H’ers under age 12, for maximum of two-year participation. Members who exhibit a bucket calf may not exhibit any other beef or dairy animal. Bucket calves are not eligible for beef showmanship class. Judging will be based on the following criteria: 25% Completed record sheet; 25% Exhibitor interview with the judge; 25% General health and thriftiness of the calf; 25% Evidence of training the calf by the exhibitor (no special consideration given for clipping or fitting).
