*Denotes State Fair Entry

Purple, $3; Blue, $2; Red, $1.50; White, $1

All poultry entries must be pre-entered at the Extension office by the deadline. An exhibitor may enter a maximum of eight live exhibition poultry in classes G07002-G070032 and G070036-G070039. An exhibitor may also enter a maximum of two pens of each production class (i.e. Egg Production, Broilers, or Production Turkeys) for a total of 14 live entries. There is no limit to the number of live exhibition entries per class (more than one poultry can be shown in the same class, but the total number of live exhibition poultry per exhibitor cannot exceed eight and total number of production classes cannot exceed six). Pens of three will count as one entry. An exhibitor may enter a maximum of two pens of three broilers, two production turkeys, and two pens of three egg production. All entries in each class will be presented to the judge together. Each exhibitor is expected to be present during judging. The exhibitor will show the poultry at the designated judging area where it will be judged according to its entered class based upon its breed characteristics outlined in the most current American Standard of Perfection, unless otherwise stated.

Two substitutions to pre-entry registration per exhibitor are permitted on fair check in day. These substitutions can be substitutions to the exhibitor's entries for Outstanding Poultry Award. Other substitutions to the Outstanding Poultry Award designated classes are not allowed. All poultry shown must be on an ID sheet due to the Extension office by June 15. All exhibition poultry and static entries excluding Egg Quality, Broilers, Egg Production pens and Production Turkeys will be brought to the fair on poultry check in day and remain housed in the poultry barn until poultry release day. Egg Quality, Broilers, Egg Production pens and Production Turkeys will be brought to the designated judging area, judged and released the same day as the poultry show, but the entry must be confirmed the day of poultry check in. All poultry must be owned by the exhibitor by June 15 and be free of parasites or disease.  If symptoms exist they may be asked to be remove them from the premises.

Exhibitors that are 11 years old and older are eligible for the Outstanding Poultry Exhibitor Award. Each exhibitor will designate up to 9 classes on the online pre-fair entry site to be scored toward this award.  In addition to the 9 designated classes, an exhibitor's Showmanship placing will be included in the overall score in determining the Outstanding Poultry Exhibitor Award.  Points will be awarded according to ribbon placings, class reserve and champions, division reserve and champions, and reserve and best in show.

Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Training: Exhibitors in beef, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, swine, and market poultry (including production turkeys) must have received Quality Assurance training or testing through a UNL Extension program by the date set by the Extension Office. Anyone not completing the Q.A. training will be ineligible to exhibit at the Buffalo County Fair. Completion of training will be certified by a Buffalo County Extension Educator.

Egg production pullets or hens should be currently laying and of the same breed, color, size, and will be judged based upon production qualities and uniformity.  They do not need to be a breed recognized by the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection.  Each pen of three will county as one entry.  A limit of two pens of egg production per youth can be entered.

Production Turkey — A Turkey Production Pen will consist of one male or one female turkey. Production turkeys must be ordered and purchased through the Buffalo County Extension Office to be eligible for show. Turkeys will be judged on overall condition and meat production qualities and weigh a minimum of 12 pounds.  Not meeting the weight minimum will result in an automatic lowering of one ribbon placement. Each pen will count as one entry.  A limit of two production turkeys per youth can be entered.

Herdsmanship duties are the responsibility of the exhibitor. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding and watering their own poultry. Exhibitors are expected to keep the exhibit area orderly, neat, clean and attractive. They are expected to be courteous to other exhibitors and visitors. All exhibitors are expected to clean their area before removing animals from the exhibit building. 4-H Poultry will be released at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 30.

Buffalo County also follows State Fair rules and guidelines.
