Each exhibitor is limited to not more than three animals in dairy cattle and not more than three animals in dairy goat. An identification form with the animals on it will need to be on file at the Extension Office by June 15. Animals jointly owned by siblings – ownership will be determined at check-in at fair.
4-H members may take home their 4-H dairy cows that are in actual milk production following the dairy show. Exhibitors in the dairy herd class will enter and show three animals. At least one of the three must be a cow that has freshened and has been fresh long enough to have a projected 305 day M.E. At least one animal must qualify as being bred by exhibitor; and all three must be the same breed. Dairy herd exhibitors shall bring their production record book with them. Herds will be scored and awarded ribbons on the basis of the current year’s dairy herd score card. Each exhibitor is expected to fill out his own scorecard and present it when cattle are checked in with production verified by one of the superintendents.
Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Training: Exhibitors in beef, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, swine, and market poultry (including production turkeys) must have received Quality Assurance training or testing through a UNL Extension program by the date set by the Extension Office. Anyone not completing the Q.A. training will be ineligible to exhibit at the Buffalo County Fair. Completion of training will be certified by a Buffalo County Extension Educator.
Animals born after Aug. 31, 2023 that have calved must be shown as two-year-olds.
