Cake and Cookie Jar Auction

COOKIE JAR AND CAKE AUCTION

Decorated Cake Auction 
  • The exhibitor must carry and exhibit another foods project in addition to this project.  

     

  • The cake’s board/base should be no larger than 16-inch square. Judging will be based on the following:  

     

  • Cakes must be securely covered with clear plastic wrap for food safety. Otherwise, it cannot be exhibited and sold.  

     

  • Cakes and icing must be labeled with the flavor.  

     

  • Cakes will be judged on appearance and creativity.  

     

  • Auction cakes will be entered on Tuesday, August 4th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cakes will be Interview Judged (exhibitors will meet with a judge to discuss their project). Cakes will then be taken home and stored in a freezer until Friday for the auction.   

     

  • Exhibitors must personally present the cake during the auction on Friday afternoon following the Beef Show. Exhibitors will be required to wear blue jeans and a 4-H Council approved T-shirt when presenting their cake at the auction.  

     

  • The Box Butte County 4-H Council will be withholding 4% of monies paid to exhibitors for promotion and expenses related to the Cake & Cookie Jar Auction and $20 for a buyer meal.  

     

  • Blank thank you notes will be distributed to exhibitors when cakes are checked in. Checks will be distributed by Nebraska Bank following the fair (and all buyers have paid) and will be mailed to exhibitors upon receipt of a written thank you note to your buyer in an addressed & stamped, unsealed envelope. Thank you notes may be randomly checked for content.

E425002 Junior Cake Auction- Exhibitors 11 years of age and younger as of Jan 1, may decorate a cake baked by someone else Decorated Cookie Jar Auctions  

 

Decorated Cookie Jar Auction 
  • The exhibitor must carry and exhibit another foods project in addition to this project.  

     

  •  Each exhibitor will begin with a wide-mouth 1-gallon jar with a screw on lid. 

     

  • If you have any questions about whether your jar is an approved jar, please contact the Extension Office.  

     

  • Decoration will be up to the creativity of the exhibitor as long as a 1-gallon wide- mouth jar is used in some manner (does not have to be visible but must be functional to store cookies).  
  • Must be able to open the lid of jar to access cookies.  

     

  • Clearly attach a label to your jar with the kind of cookies you are entering (example: Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Sugar, etc.).  

     

  • Jars will be entered and judged on entry day Tuesday, August 4th.   

     

  •   Enter the jar along with a sample of one of each of the cookies you will put in your auction jar on a paper plate and sealed in   a plastic bag.  

     

  •   Entries that do not include both the cookie jar and a sample of each of the cookies are considered an incomplete project and   will not be judged and will not be eligible to sell in the auction. 

     

  •   At the time the project is judged on entry day, each exhibitor will be issued a container for the cookies to bring on Friday        prior to the auction.  Cookies will not be placed in the jars. 

      

  •   At the auction, buyers will receive your cookie jar and your container of cookies.

     

  • Jars will be on display in the 4-H Building until the auction on Friday. Judging will include appearance and creativity of the jar. Score sheets are available at the Extension Office. Jars count 50% and cookies 50% of the score.  

     

  • Exhibitors must personally present their jar during the auction on Friday afternoon following the Beef Show. Exhibitors must be able to carry their jar around the sale ring unassisted. If it is too big or heavy to carry by yourself, you will not be able to sell it. Exhibitors will be required to wear blue jeans and a  4-H Council approved T-shirt.  

     

  • The Box Butte County 4-H Council will be withholding 4% of the monies paid to exhibitors for promotion and expenses related to the Cake & Cookie Jar Auction and $20 for a buyer meal. If 4-Her wishes to donate part of their auction proceeds to an outside party, that will be 4-Her’s responsibility.

  • No buyer add-ons after the final price have been called by the auctioneer in the arena.  

     

  • All buyers will be invoiced by Nebraska Bank after the County Fair. There will be no payments taken on auction day.  

     

REMINDER: All 4-H projects must comply with copyright laws. You cannot reproduce a copyrighted figure. This practice is against the law. If you purchase a copyrighted item to use such as a stuffed Cookie Monster, Sponge Bob printed fabric, Disney decals, etc. that is okay. Someone has paid for the copyright to that item. You cannot copy, paint, download from the internet, etc. any copyrighted items that you do not purchase. Any cookie jar that violates the copyright law will be disqualified and will not be allowed to sell. If you have any questions about your design, contact the office.  

    

E425003  Senior Cookie Jar – Exhibitors aged 14 – 18 years of age or older as of January 1.  One-gallon jar with 4 varieties (1 dozen each) of homemade cookies for a total minimum of 48 cookies.  

 E425004   Intermediate Cookie Jar - Exhibitors aged 11 -13 years of age as of January 1.   One-gallon jar with 3 varieties (1 dozen each) of homemade cookies for a total minimum of 36 cookies.  

E425005 Junior Cookie Jar – Exhibitors aged 8 -10 years of age as of January 1.  One-gallon jar with 2 varieties (1 dozen each) of homemade cookies for a total minimum of 24 cookies.  

  

Special Recognitions will be awarded in each the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Divisions for:  

 

  • Best County Fair Theme "Stars. Stripes, & Country Fair Nights”
  • Best Use of Recycled Materials
  • Most Creative 
  • Best Workmanship  

 

A Champion and Reserve Champion will be awarded in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Cookie Jar Classes and the Decorated Cake Classes.
