Perform research support duties for the WCREC beef research program such as daily feeding of cattle, weighing and processing of cattle, transporting, calving, breeding, treating, record keeping, and all other aspects of maintaining a cow herd. Other duties include data collection, performing special feeding procedures, operating, maintaining, and repairing facility farm/herd equipment and fencing. Operate feed mill to mix and prepare supplements and rations for cattle on research experiments to protocol requirements. Other duties as assigned. Work in inclement weather may be required. Evenings and weekends may be required.
Associate’s degree in animal science, agriculture or a related field plus two years working with large animals and operating farm equipment required; equivalency considered. Ability to care for livestock and knowledge of livestock health essential. Ability to transport animals necessary. Ability to maintain farm equipment, farm buildings, and perform basic repairs when needed is essential. Must have strong verbal communication skills. Basic computer and data entry skills necessary.
Artificial insemination training helpful. Previous experience in a research facility preferred.
