2023 Proposed Fair Book Changes for Scotts Bluff Co 4-H

The proposed fair book changes are below and will be voted on at the January 23, 2023 4-H Council meeting. If there are questions, please contact the Extension Office or Project Superintendent. Fair Book Changes 2023

Static

Add to clothing day schedule: 7:45 am. to 11:00 am. Registration Open (white cards)

Change static entry and schedule: Saturday, July 29, 2023 3:30 pm. to 7:00 pm. Enter all 4-H Static Exhibits – Events Center (includes foods, gardening, & field crops)  ***Each youth interview with judges, two items per judge***     

3:30 pm to 4:25 pm., all with last name starting with A thru I

4:30 pm. to 5:25 pm., all with last name starting with J thru R

5:30 pm. to 6:25 pm., all with last name starting with S thru Z

6:30 pm. to 7:00 pm., open to all-please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to our local food bank.

Healthy Lifestyles Decorated Cookie Jar Auction Division 433

Add: At the time the project is judged on entry day, each exhibitor will be issued a container for the cookies (with a 4-H sticker to seal) to bring on Thursday prior to the auction and a Thank you note for the buyer. The thank you note needs to be completed and returned to Cookie Jar Superintendent before the Auction, no checks will be issued without the Thank you card.

Club Display Division #???

All Clubs are invited to exhibit a display of their club (2023 is the 2nd year). All clubs may use up to 3 - 4’ x 4’ display area. This will be a flat peg board.

Division 410 Fashion Show

Show Script Information Form SF24 and/or 4-H Shopping in Style Fashion Show Written Report with Narration Form SF184, revised 2/2018 must be turned into the Extension Office by July 14. New this year-SHOW Script option to enter on google form at https://go.unl.edu/sbfashion

Attention Shoppers and Shopping in Style posters, notebooks, etc. are to be entered and judged on Static Day.

CONSUMER MANAGEMENT

Add: Clarification; only items that come for Attention Shoppers and Shopping in Style are the items that will go through the style show. The actually judging of those projects happen at Static Check-in.

Horse

  1. Change Ranch Horse Pleasure to Ranch Horse Riding.
  2. The patterns for all Age Divisions for Horse exhibitors in the classes of:  1) Reining and 2) Ranch Horse Riding will be posted at 8:00 a.m. 2 days prior to the Scotts Bluff County Fair Horse show date.  The patterns will be posted on the Scotts Bluff County Extension Office website page for horse exhibitors to study prior to showing.
  3. All Horse exhibitors will receive a letter right after the February 1st 4-H re-enrollment time line reminding them of the requirements for leasing or borrowing a horse as a Fair project and the affidavit that needs to be signed on the bottom of each of the State Horse ID sheets.  Exhibitors turning in a signed affidavit will be contacted on or around July 1st to provide proof of these Horse project requirements.

Livestock

SWINE

The swine show will move to a one-day show – Market show to begin, Breeding and Showmanship to follow, on Monday of the Fair.

Purebred papers on swine needs to be the “registry” not “pedigree” papers.   should read: Certified purebred registration papers being due no later than July 1st from the appropriate original swine registry.  If no purebred registration papers are presented by July 1st, the animal will show in the crossbred class.

Breeding Swine will move from exhibition to a Breeding Swine class/division. 

MEAT GOATS

The meat goat show, market, breeding and showmanship and Dairy goats will be on Tuesday of the Fair.

Breeding meat goat classes will be broken by age as follows:

  • Division – 19 months and older
  • Change meat goat “data contest” class to “rate of gain” class

BEEF

Change “Progressive Market Steer” class to "Stocker Feeder” class to avoid confusion in the registration process.

Purebred papers (highlighted above in swine) for beef need to read the same.

ALL SPECIES

First and second place purple Top 2 winners from each class within a division will compete for Champion and Reserve Champion of that division.

HERDSMANSHIP

Change “Score sheets” and replace with “daily winners” .

GENERAL

Remove 7 a.m. on Sunday for animal release.  It should just read “Sunday”.
