Merrick County: Breaking New Ground Campaign

Our goal is to raise $2,312,500

Contractor: Rathmann-Manning Corporation of Chapman, Ne
Architect: Joseph R. Hewgley & Associates, Inc., North Platte, Ne

"Merrick County needs a 4-H Building . The current one has out lived its body.  Merrick County is in need of a building, a center... an agriculture center, a community centerfacility that meets the county's agriculture, business, and community needs."                                            -Jim Helgoth, County Supervisor

Merrick County Youth & Agriculture Education Center

The new center provides a premiere facility equipped to educate Merrick County residents, and the surrounding area from 1-80 to Grand Island to Columbus. The nearby crossroads of highways 30 and 14, 14 and 92, and 30 and 92 make this facility's location a way to draw people to Merrick County.

The facility will have an education wing with an education center room able to accommodate 350-500 people, a classroom/conference room accommodating 40 learners, and will house the Merrick County Extension Office for a staff of 4-5 people employed by UN-L and the county.

A kitchen designed for teaching youth essential life skills, and adults healthy living and food safety, will be in the education wing.

The agriculture wing will tailor to events including farm technology days, equine and livestock shows, and ag/commercial exhibits. Due to the facilities layout, community groups and families will be able to host events from Santa's arrival to weddings/reunions to commercial expos. This will finally be the facility where county residents come to gather that has been discussed for generations.
