Beef and Brad Newsletters
Greetings from Brad Schick!
I am Brad Schick, the new Livestock Systems Extension Educator based in Nance County. The region I cover is a seven county accountability region including Boone, Nance, Merrick, Hamilton, Platte, Polk, and York Counties.
I grew up in Northeast Nebraska on a small farm and attended Concordia University in Seward, NE. There I earned a B.S. in biology and minored in chemistry and physical science while playing football for the Bulldogs. After, I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and earned a Master of Science degree in Agronomy specializing in Range and Forage Science. My research focused on management of cool-season pasture, interseeding legumes, but also range and native pasture. I then took a position as a Research Manager and Technician and worked in southern Iowa and eastern Nebraska. I've been with Extension since 2017 in South Central Nebraska and moved positions to Nance County this spring.
I live in Albion and try to help farm on the side with family. The areas I work in includes rangelands, mixed pasture establishment/grazing, hayland, ruminant nutrition, crop, cover crop, and corn stalk grazing and baling to name just a few. I am a member of the Society for Range Management – Nebraska Section council and continue to be involved in on-farm research.
Please feel welcome to stop at the Extension office in Fullerton or give me a call! I look forward to working and meeting with all the producers in the area. It is a privilege to work with you all to propel the beef industry forward. Have a great day!
